Week of Sept. 28
Is Anyone Actually Happy…or Are We ALL Just Exhausted?
Two hours commuting. Full-time job. Two young kids. Activities. Dinner. Laundry. Repeat.
One exhausted mom asked the question that clearly hit a nerve: “Is anyone actually happy?”
Moms admitted the struggle is REAL. Some are spending close to three hours a day in the car and mourning all that lost family time. One mom decided her house being messy was simply the thing that had to give. Another took a pay cut for a job closer to home and said it changed her family’s life for the better. Meal prepping on Sundays, lowering expectations and accepting that you simply cannot do everything were recurring themes.
A Scary Warning From a Mom
A mom anonymously shared that her 22-year-old daughter says she was assaulted outside Froyo House in Bay Hills. Her daughter fought the man off and escaped, but was deeply shaken and had not yet reported the incident to police.
The manager of Froyo House responded that the store unfortunately doesn’t have cameras covering the exterior and employees working that evening didn’t witness anything. Other women shared their own experiences with assault, encouraged the family to consider reporting it and, most importantly, urged them to help their daughter find support as she processes what happened. Several privately offered to talk with her as survivors themselves.
A Yom Kippur Message That Really Resonated
Annapolis Moms founder Lisa Peri shared something personal with the group as Yom Kippur began. As a Jewish woman, she explained that the holiest day of the Jewish year is a time to reflect, forgive, and think about how we can do better — but that its message can extend far beyond one religion.
“We all make mistakes. We all carry hurts. And we can all choose to offer each other more grace.”
More than 350 moms reacted with love and support. One fellow Jewish mom shared that she’s trying to practice kindness in everyday ways — even when dealing with a difficult boss — whether that means returning someone’s shopping cart or letting another driver merge. Sometimes the little things really aren’t so little.
Help Me Find My Church
After losing touch with her faith following college and several devastating losses, one mom is ready to find her way back — but needs a church where she genuinely feels at home.
She was looking around Arnold and Severna Park for something Protestant or non-denominational with a strong sense of community and a worship style somewhere between very traditional and full-on rock concert.
Moms delivered more than 20 recommendations, including College Parkway Baptist Church, Trinity Bible Church, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Broadneck Baptist Church and Lighthouse Church. Pastors and church members even personally invited her to visit.
Okay…WHAT Is Everyone Sick With?!
After her teen experienced more than a week of fatigue, headache, sore throat, and mild congestion, one mom wanted to know if something was going around.
Many moms said their families had recently experienced similar symptoms and believed COVID could be responsible, while others encouraged her to have her teen checked by a doctor rather than assuming the cause based on symptoms alone.
Basically, if your household currently sounds like a symphony of coughing, sniffling and “Mooooom, I don’t feel good…” — apparently you have company.
