The Ultimate Public Restroom Guide for Annapolis Moms

You’ve checked the diaper bag. You’ve put sunscreen on everyone. You’ve got your itinerary for your family day in downtown Annapolis. But once you get there, you realize you’ve got to change the baby and the older kiddos are suddenly about to burst. Where do you go?

Having done the potty sprint many times myself, I get it. That’s why I’ve put together a list of all the public restrooms downtown. I researched every place you can walk into without buying anything or having to grab a key. I—along with my trusty assistant, my husband—went to these locations to check for loud hand dryers, startling automatic flushers, and changing tables in both men’s and women’s bathrooms. 

Quick Tips

From this mom to you, I want to share some of my tips, tricks, and mom-bag essentials that make using public bathrooms a little less stressful:

• Sticky notes: These are great for covering up automatic flush sensors. In a pinch, I’ve even used a Paw Patrol bandage. 
• Kitchen towel: I always bring a small hand towel for bathrooms with only ear-splittingly loud hand dryers.
• Disposable rubber gloves: When you’re balancing a baby on a precarious changing table, having gloves on makes keeping your hands clean a bit easier.
• Hand sanitizer and wipes: You’ve probably already got these in your car, your bag, your pocket, and anywhere else you can think of!

Where To Go (When you have To Go!)

Visitors Center

Address: 26 West Street, Annapolis, MD 21401
Hours: Every day, 10 AM to 5 PM.
Changing Tables: Yes, in the accessible stalls of both the men’s and women’s restrooms.
Occupancy: Multiple stalls.
Flush: Automatic but there are signs saying you need to press the button to flush.
Paper Towels: Yes, but also hand dryers.

Mills-Hillman Garage

Address: 150 Gorman Street, Annapolis, MD 21401
Hours: The garage is open 24 hours.
Changing Tables: Yes.
Occupancy: Single. And side note: This bathroom was cold. It was refreshing on a hot day, but your kiddo may be less than thrilled to be chilled.
Flush: Manual.
Paper Towels: No, only a hand dryer.

Annapolis Market House

Address: 25 Market Space, City Dock, Annapolis, MD 21401
Hours: Open when either Rise Up Coffee or Annapolis Market House is open. 
Changing Tables: Yes, in the accessible stalls of both the men’s and women’s restrooms.
Occupancy: Multiple stalls.
Flush: Automatic.
Paper Towels: Yes.

Portable Bathrooms on Prince George Street

Address: Between 81 and 97 Prince George Street
Hours: 24 hours.
Changing Tables: None.
Occupancy: Single.
Flush: Manual (you have to step on a lever next to the toilet).
Paper Towels: Yes.

Knighton Garage

Other Locations

• The Westin Annapolis: This is the location of Park Place Garage. There are restrooms in the lobby.
• Calvert Street Garage: Only monthly pass holders can park there from 6 AM to 6 PM on weekdays. But on weekdays after 6 PM and all day on weekends, there is free parking. There are bathrooms on-site, but we weren’t able to visit them for this guide.
• Portable toilet behind Chick & Ruth’s: On the corner of Conduit and Gorman streets, there is a green gotügo portable bathroom. I can’t promise that it’s meant for the public, but we were able to open it.

You can plan your day with confidence that, should a potty-mergency occur, you’ve got the lowdown on all the nearby bathrooms. Then you can spend more time watching the boats, enjoying an ice cream, or exploring a museum, and less time frantically looking for the nearest toilet.
