Relax, Refresh, Renew
I think we’ve all tried to make it work: the at-home spa day. You’re in your bathrobe that has seen better days. You chopped some cucumber slices for your eyes, only to have them eaten while your back was turned. And the oatmeal/avocado mask you’ve made for yourself would be nice if it wasn’t for the background hollering, barking, and crying.
No, you need a real spa day. It’s time to get spoiled and pampered at Annapolis’ favorite spas. They have wellness and aesthetic treatments from aromatherapy and massage to lasers and injectables. Choose what you want and let the professionals take care of you.
Tips & Tricks
If you are not used to spending money on yourself, the process may feel intimidating. Here are some suggestions:
- Keep an eye out for deals. Check websites such as Groupon.com for deals on local spa services and packages. And follow these businesses on social media or visit their websites to see their seasonal offerings.
- Bring cash for tips, but ask what they prefer. Many places use payment systems where you can tip using a credit card. I suggest bringing some cash (tipping 20 percent is always safe) to save yourself the credit card fee and give your service provider physical cash. However, don’t be afraid to ask what they prefer. Some may prefer digital tips so the money goes straight into their bank account.
- Ask about downtime. Some facials and skin treatments may cause redness, flaking or increased sensitivity to the sun. Ask about potential side effects before booking.
- Speak up if you’re uncomfortable. A spa experience should be relaxing! If the massage is too hard (or too gentle), the facial is too spicy, or the room is too cold, say something.
- For facials and other skin treatments, bring a list of your products and medications. It’s important for aestheticians to know if their products will interact with yours.
