Where Are the Neighborhoods Where Everybody Knows Your Name?
A family from D.C. with two little girls is ready to make the move to the Annapolis area, but they’re not just looking for a house. They want community. Think kids growing up together, neighbors hanging at the pool, spontaneous cocktails after work, and maybe even some water access. With a budget of around $750K and a D.C. commute three days a week, the mom asked which neighborhoods should make the shortlist. Recommendations were emphatic and came pouring in for Hunt Meadow, Hillsmere, Blackwalnut Cove, Manhattan Beach, Epping Forest, Davidsonville, Germantown-Homewood, Admiral Heights, and Cape St. Claire.
A Teacher & Single Mom Needs a Second Job
This one hit hard. A full-time teacher, single mom and parent of a child with special needs shared that she’s about $1,000 short every month and desperately needs flexible work Monday and Tuesday evenings and every other weekend. After spending $115K on a divorce and caring for both parents before they passed away, she’s applied to more than 550 jobs without finding the right fit. Moms jumped in with ideas including bartending, tutoring, selling promotional products, dog walking, and pet boarding and plenty of encouragement.
The Most Important Postpartum Question: WHAT ARE WE EATING?!
A very hungry mom in labor at Luminis had one thing on her mind: What should my first meal be after I give birth that’s near the hospital? The group understood the assignment. Suggestions included Yama Sushi, Mission BBQ, cake from Double T Diner, a Giolitti’s sub and, because babies don’t care what time it is, Wawa for the 24/7 win.
Where’s the Beef?
One simple question — Where does everyone get local beef? — brought out some passionate recommendations! Moms suggested Darland Manor Farm, Freedom Valley Farm and QCF Farms in Centreville. One member gave QCF an especially glowing review, saying her family has purchased multiple half-cow orders from them and loves their grass-fed and grass-finished beef, pork offerings and the little “she shed” where customers can pick up meat to try.
Annapolis Moms Show Up AGAIN
A grandmother unexpectedly preparing to foster their newborn granddaughter in the NICU reached out with an urgent request for a bassinet, infant car seat and base, stroller, and crib. And then came the update we love to see: Annapolis Moms came through! The family shared that thanks to the incredible generosity of the group, they now have all the basic baby items they need. Moms helping moms and grandparents helping babies. This community really is something special.
