Are you still looking for a summer program for your child that has learning differences? If so, check out Brendan Sailing Summer 2023 programs! For nearly 40 years, Brendan Sailing has been helping children not only learn to sail, but to navigate and build social skills, teamwork, leadership and more.
Spots for this summer’s programs are still available, but you should act soon! Brendan Sailing welcomes children ages 11-18 for day camp and children ages 14-18 for overnight camp. Scholarships are available, as no youth is ever turned down for the inability to pay.
“The Brendan Sailing program showed my son he could win no matter the challenge! I have been telling him for years and now he believes it! I would encourage all parents to give this gift to their child, the gift of confidence,” said a parent of a Brendan Sailor from Summer 2022.
This year’s Brendan Sailing program features both one- and two-week camp programs at their Bembe Beach location in Annapolis, beginning June 19. Led by U.S. Sailing certified instructors, the Brendan Curriculum covers an introduction to the sport of sailing that includes parts of the boat, maneuvers, navigation, and the Rules of the Road that follows the National On-Water Standards. No sailing experience is necessary. Experienced sailors will have more challenging opportunities to complement their skill level. When not on the water, campers have a variety of recreational and team building opportunities to promote self-confidence and esteem.
In July, the program will move to Southern Maryland on the beautiful waterfront campus at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. These camps feature two separate, six-day overnight sessions (day camp options are available as well.) The St. Mary’s program introduces safe instruction not only for sailing, but incorporates the concepts of paddle sports and powerboating as well. This residential program offers participants the opportunity to stay on-site in St. Mary’s College student housing, enjoy meals in the dining hall, and build confidence through the independence they experience while staying on campus.
“Our daughter’s technical sailing skills, confidence and self-esteem went through the roof! She started the session with no sailing experience and finished by taking her mom and dad out for a sail BY HERSELF,” said a parent of a Brendan sailor from Summer 2021. “She had the skills to sail beautifully and was able to direct her parents what to do using clear and confident instructions…Her excitement going to camp each day was palpable and now she wants to go back next year to train as an assistant counselor!”
