Did you know, you don’t have to drive all the way to Luray Caverns to explore a cave? There’s one hiding in our own backyard called Crystal Grottoes in Boonsboro, MD. The Crystal Grottoes Caverns were discovered in 1920 in the making of State Route 34.
We went early on a weekend, and there were only two other people on our tour of the cave. The tour guide made our son the focal point which was really special! The entire tour took about 30 minutes, and the rock features were really beautiful and awe-inspiring. I’m told that this cave is small compared to Luray Caverns, but the experience is still worth the trip.
We paired this outing with a trip to Washington Monument Park, where there stands the first completed monument dedicated to the memory of George Washington. It is only about seven minutes away, so this makes for a fun-filled day for the whole family!
