Holy Guacamole, Urbano is A Family-Friendly Fiesta of Tex-Mex Flavor

Picture this: bold flavors, vibrant spices, and the perfect mix of tradition and creativity all coming together in one place. Say hello to Urbano, the Tex-Mex hotspot located in the Annapolis Town Center! Urbano combines the rich traditions of Mexican cuisine with the bold spirit of modern American flair. The restaurant itself is vibrant, full of colorful murals and tilework, along with a huge bar and even a small private dining space for about 10 people. Got kids in tow? Urbano is family-friendly, with plenty of high chairs, an affordable kids’ menu, and crayons for entertainment.

My family—spouse and two crazy toddlers—and I were invited to a family Tex-Mex night out. Here’s the lowdown on the food we ordered:

Kick-Off Cocktails

Mango Top-Shelf Patrón Margarita
Quick Tip: ask for a Tajín rim. The citrusy chili kick against the mango’s tropical sweetness is pure magic.
Blackberry Mexican Mule
Summer in a glass—refreshing, fruity, and just the right amount of fizz.

Opening Act: Apps That Pop

Quick tip: before the apps are served, ask for their triple dip, which includes a creamy habanero, garlic habanero, and salsa verde sauce
Chips and Salsa

Is it really a Tex-Mex restaurant if it doesn’t serve free chips and salsa?! Urbano turns things up a notch with delicious tortilla chips served alongside two dips – a classic red salsa and a unique grilled black salsa.

Elotes Locos
Smoky-sweet corn on the cob slathered in queso fresco, chili salsa, and lime. One bite and you’ll understand why “locos” means “crazy”—it’s crazy good.
Urbano Wings
These wings are slow-cooked, then grilled to perfection and served with celery and a house spicy ranch. These were flavorful with just enough heat to keep things interesting.

Main-Course Fireworks

Chicken and Steak Fajitas
A sizzling hot plate with all the classic fixings: rice, beans, grilled jalapeño and onions, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, and warm, homemade tortillas. We had a blast building our own.
- Another quick tip: build your fajita and top it with the creamy habanero sauce and red salsa from the chips and dip appetizer!

Carne Asada
A giant marinated grilled steak served sizzling alongside beans, rice, grilled onions, and a crisp avocado salad. Every bite was rich, tender, and deeply satisfying.

Kids’ Chicken Quesadilla
Gooey cheese, tender chicken, plus fries, rice, and beans because toddlers deserve a fiesta, too. Our kids made us believe for the night that they aren’t normally picky eaters.

Sweet Finale

Sopapillas
Fried dough triangles with a melting scoop of vanilla, drizzled with honey, and dusted with powdered sugar. This was the perfect, sweet ending. My husband and I debated on whether we would share with the kids.
