- Tucked away off Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie is Ja Kum Sung, a hole-in-a-wall restaurant serving traditional Korean dishes, and Korean-style Chinese entreés. Korean-Chinese cuisine can be traced back to the 19th century in Incheon, Korea, where Chinese immigrants settled and adapted their dishes to local tastes. All meals begin with banchan, which are small side dishes to accompany your main dishes. They include pickled and sautéed vegetables, fish cakes (my son’s favorite!), and kimchi, a Korean staple. Favorite entreés include the Seafood Pancake, (Korean-style pancake with shrimp, baby squid, baby mussels, and vegetables), Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles with pork and vegetables), Beef Bulgogi (marinated ribeye platter with the Chef’s special sweet soy sauce), Beef Hot Stone Bibimbap (stir-fried vegetables, meat, and a fried egg served with Korean sweet and spicy sauce in a traditional hot stone pot), Mushroom Sundubu (traditional Korean spicy stew with soft tofu, mushrooms, and vegetables), and Jjajangmyeon (house noodles in a black bean sauce with pork and vegetables). The staff are incredibly welcoming – so bring your appetite and an open palette to enjoy Ja Kum Sung’s food!
- P.S. There’s parking in the back and plenty of highchairs.
- There are three more days to cash in on Sweet Hearts Patisserie’s Annual Italian Week, from now until Saturday, October 5! Their menu will feature classic Italian pastries all week long. Options include cannoli, sfogliatelle, lobster tail, tiramisu, Italian cookies, pasticiotti, biscotti, rainbow cookies, and much more. The celebration will conclude with an Italian Celebration on Saturday! Check out their Facebook event page for more information.
- Mondays tend to be the least liked day of the week. But don’t worry – The Lodge in Annapolis now offers not one, but TWO meal deals to make Mondays better. Deeming Mondays as Burger Night, the restaurant offers an all-day burgerspecial with half off their Lodge Burger (Hooks 3-year yellow cheddar, million-dollar bacon, grilled Vidalia onions, butter lettuce, tomatoes, comeback sauce, brioche bun, served with barn fries). It’s also Kids Eat Free Night meaning families receive a free kid’s meal (ages 10 and under) per adult meal entrée purchase!
- Fun fact: Their kid’s menu includes a 6-ounce grilled sirloin steak and fried shrimp!
