- Calling all sushi (and non-sushi) lovers! Bring an empty stomach to Fukuya in Glen Burnie because it’s AYCE (All-You-Can-Eat) sushi and more! When you are seated, Fukuya staff will hand you two sheets of paper for ordering (you mark what you want) – one is for sushi, and the other is for the kitchen. Sushi selections include sashimi, sushi, maki (rolls or hand rolls), and chef special rolls. Kitchen selections include soups and salads, appetizers, noodles (udon and soba), teriyaki, and even dessert. Highlights include the gyoza, sweet potato tempura, beef udon, yellowtail sushi, Glen Burnie roll (salmon, crabmeat, cream cheese, avocado, deep fried, topped with masago, scallion, eel sauce, and spicy mayo), spider man roll (soft shell crab, avocado, topped with spicy crab meat salad, eel sauce, and spicy mayo), and strawberry ice cream. AYCE pricing is $26.99 for adults, $13.99 for kids 7 to 11, $5.99 for kids 3 to 6, and free for kids under 3. There is a two-hour limit, so order what you want and eat what you ordered (there’s a surcharge for food waste)!
- Knock, knock. Who’s there? Bread delivery! Former head chef of Flamant and Forward Brewing opened a new microbakery specializing in all things sourdough and sweets based out of his home in Riva. Gratefull believes that cooking is a love language, gratitude is a flavor, and food with integrity will feed the body and soul. On their menu are country loaves, focaccia, sourdough English muffins, coffee cakes, cinnamon knots, brownies, (really big) chocolate cake slices, (really big) chocolate chip cookies, and Eat My Dust good-on-everything seasoning blend jars. They restock the week’s inventory on Sundays by 11 a.m., and orders must be placed by Thursday at 10 p.m. Pickups are Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Riva. Too busy to pick up? Good news is that they deliver on Saturday afternoons to zip codes 21140, 20135, 21037, 21401, and 21403 for a $10 fee.
- If you’re grumpy and you know it, clap your hands. Or you can go to Grump’s Café – trust me, if you go there for breakfast, you’ll leave happy. As soon as you step inside, you will see walls filled with color, an insurmountable number of eclectic signs, and birds perched from the ceilings. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day – thankfully, Grump’s Café serves it all day long! Favorites include The Chicken Fried …Benedict! (poached egg on top of chicken and waffles, topped with hollandaise sauce, served with honey butter, warm syrup, and potatoes or grits) and breakfast combos like the BUBBA! (3 eggs, 3 bacon or sausage, 3 pancakes or French toast). They also have Grumpy kid’s meals for $5.99, like the Ones (1 egg, 1 bacon or sausage, and 1 pancake or French toast), which includes a juice or milk.
- P.S. Grump’s Café has a bar – try their M-M-M-Mimosa Shake (creamy blend of champagne, OJ, and vanilla ice cream) or Grump’s Bloody Mary (double shot of Tito’s vodka and Grump’s bloody mary mix).
- P.S.S. The table numbering system looks like my sons’ toy box.
- Opa! It’s that time of year! The Annual Annapolis Greek Festival is this weekend at The Byzantium at Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Church off Riva Road. Expect all things Greek, including food, music, beer, wine, pastries, dancing, and vendors. It’s free admission with plenty of parking onsite, and family friendly (there’s Kiddie Corner outside). My favorite things to order include the lamb gyro (lamb stuffed in pita bread, with tomato, onion, and tzatziki), Greek fries, pastitsio (baked pasta with ground beef and béchamel sauce), rice pudding, and baklava.
- Their hours are Saturday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, June 2 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- If you’re on the B&A Trail and need a pit stop to replenish, walk/run/roll to B&A Acai Bowls for bowls, smoothies, cold brew, and toasts. There are four different bowl bases to choose from – acai, pitaya, coconut, and green; eight different smoothies to try; and over 20 different add ons (like spirulina and collagen peptides). Favorite bowls to check out include the B&A (acai base, granola, strawberry, blueberry, and honey) and Severn (coconut base, granola, nutella, banana, strawberry, and coconut flakes). They even have a kid’s bowl option (acai base, granola, strawberry, and blueberry)! Place your order from their art-deco trailer and find a spot to enjoy, with plenty of shaded seating.
- Their hours are Monday through Sunday from 7:30 am.m to 7 p.m.
