Get Lost: Your Ultimate Annapolis Guide to Corn Mazes

These early fall days bring cool breezes, cozy vibes, and lots of outdoor activities for the whole family. There are hayrides, pumpkin patches, and—of course—corn mazes! Farms around Annapolis design elaborate puzzles for you to try. The stalks have been growing all summer and are towering over everyone, ready for people young and old to explore.

Tips & Tricks

Wear comfortable clothes. These are farms, so keep that in mind when you choose outfits and footwear.
Don’t run. The corn mazes have paths that aren’t perfectly smooth.
Protect yourself from the sun. Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, and other sun-protective clothing. Despite how high the corn grows, it’s not really shady.
Don’t pick or eat the corn. Before my family entered the Maryland Corn Maze, staff told us that people tried to bite the corn last year and cracked their teeth. So…don’t do that.
Read up on strategies. There are ways of approaching a maze, including the right-hand rule and Trémaux’s Algorithm.
Or relax and have fun! Don’t stress too much about going through the maze quickly. Let your little ones lead the way.

Maryland Corn Maze

Visit and feed some farm animals, such as goats, sheep, chickens, and more.

This year’s theme at the Maryland Corn Maze is Toy Story. Kids have a chance to meet Woody and Jesse themselves.
Elsa and Anna may not be in Toy Story, but they’re happy to meet fans of Frozen both young and old.
There’s no better way to fuel up for a corn maze than with a classic corn dog.

Every year, the Maryland Corn Maze grows its corn into a puzzle based on a different theme. This year, it’s Toy Story, with decorations, activities, and cameos from Disney characters. Their website states that the maze itself can take 45 minutes to an hour, but it took our family 25 minutes to find our way to the big stone and back out again. There is a game inside the maze if you look for all the signs (bring your phone for scanning QR codes). For the rest of the time, you can check out the kids’ zipline, petting zoo, corn pits, pony rides, market store, and more.

Hours: September 12 to November 8, weekends from 10 AM to 7 PM. See their website for which weekdays they are open from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM and which evenings they have flashlight nights.
Cost: $19.95 per person. Save $2 when you purchase tickets in advance online. Children 2 and under are free on weekends. Children 12 months and under are free on weekdays. There is a cost of $5 for parking if there are fewer than three people in the car.

Beachmont Corn Maze

This maze is created by Beachmont Christian Ministries in Kingsville, MD. There are six acres to travel on this year’s theme—The Liberty Express! They suggest that attendees plan to take about an hour in the maze, or up to an hour and a half for larger groups. There are mountain slides, an obstacle course, an ‘extreme’ hayride, play areas for little ones, and bonfires in the evenings.

Councell Farms

Across the bay, Councell Farms is a popular fall destination for locals. Be sure to get a photo in their giant Adirondack chair to see your kids grow into it year after year. The corn maze is smaller than others, but they also have a hay bale maze for little ones to dash around. They can also feed some animals, check out farm equipment, and visit the Tiny Sprouts Village for some delightful pretend play.

Hours: September 11 to the last week of October, daily from 9:30 AM to 5:15 PM.
Cost: $6 per person. Children 2 and under are free. Grandparents joining their families also get free admission. No advanced sales on tickets; you need to pay at the farm.

Miller Farms

This farm has a full market with produce, meat, bakery items, and ice cream. In fact, they were included on Maryland’s Best Ice Cream Trail this summer, and you can try their pumpkin ice cream this fall. But their Fall Family Fun event includes much more than food. They have a corn maze, jump pads, giant slides, yard games, and more. You can hop on a hayride around the whole farm. Admission will get you everything except face painting and concessions.

Montpelier Farms

If you’re traveling on Route 3, you may have seen a giant windmill on the side of the road. That’s Montpelier Farms, and their fall festival lets you not only have fun, but also get some great photos. Your kids will want to go on the giant slide right away, so grab a burlap sack and start climbing. There is both a seven-acre interactive corn maze and a smaller maze for the kids. You may want to visit the farm more than once, because there’s more to see than you can fit into one day. But if you just want to visit the pumpkin patch or the market, you don’t have to purchase admission to the Fall Festival.
