Some mornings call for something a little better than the usual grab-and-go breakfast. That’s how we ended up at Rutabaga Juicery & Eats in West Annapolis, and it was a refreshing way to start the day.
Rutabaga is located at 4 Ridgely Ave. in Annapolis, right in that cute West Annapolis area that makes it easy to pop in before work, after a walk, or when you want something fresh without making it yourself.
What We Tried
We ordered a little spread: an acai bowl, banana toast and a green juice. A healthy enough mashup that allowed me to eat a few more slices of pizza without all the guilt (we love balance!).
The Acai & Maqui bowl was packed with acai, maqui, banana, mango, pineapple and housemade cashew milk. On top, it had granola, coconut, strawberries and blueberries. It was cold, fruity, colorful, and super filling I ended up finishing it for lunch.
The Nut Butter Banana Toast was probably the comfort-food pick of the meal. It came with almond butter, banana, honey and granola. Simple, but really good. It had that sweet-and-crunchy thing going on that made me feel joyful as a lifelong crunchy peanut butter enthusiast. It felt like something you would make at home if you didn’t sleep in until the last minute and remembered everything you needed from the grocery store (I’m not a mess, I promise).
We also had the Supergreen cold-pressed juice for lunch, made with spinach, kale, celery, cucumber, ginger, basil and lemon. It tasted fresh and clean and packed a bunch of my daily vitamins.
Why It Works for Breakfast or Lunch
Rutabaga is a great breakfast stop, but it also makes a lot of sense for lunch. Sometimes you want something quick, but you don’t want to feel like you need a nap afterward. This is that kind of place. There was no 2 PM crash this day.
The menu leans into fruits, vegetables, plant-based ingredients, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, bowls, and toasts. You can grab a smoothie bowl if you want something refreshing, toast if you need something a little heartier, or a juice if you just want a midday reset.
What I liked most is that Rutabaga doesn’t make healthy food feel like a chore. Everything looked bright and fresh, and the flavors were familiar enough that a picky eater like me wasn’t turned off.
It’s also nice to have places like this nearby when you want an easy option that doesn’t involve the Chick-fil-A drive thru. Not every healthy meal has to be a salad, and not every smart choice has to feel like you’re missing out on something tastier.

Final Bite
Rutabaga is an easy win if you’re looking for a fresh breakfast, a lighter lunch, or something colorful to brighten up the day. It’s quick, convenient, and a nice reminder that healthy food can still taste great, be filling, and make you feel good.
