For many Anne Arundel County families, summer jobs and internships are about much more than keeping teens busy. They can be the first real step into the working world, helping young people build confidence, learn workplace skills, and start thinking more clearly about the future.
That is why summer internships in Anne Arundel County matter so much right now.
The City of Annapolis Summer Intern Program offers two paid tracks in 2026: one for ages 14 to 16 at $15 per hour for five weeks, and another for ages 17 to 24 at $17 per hour for seven weeks. The city says the program includes orientation, training, skill-building, networking, and a graduation celebration for participants and families.
That may sound like a seasonal opportunity, but it has a much bigger impact. For many young people, internships are where confidence begins. They are where teens learn how to show up, communicate, ask questions, follow through, and begin to picture themselves in a future career. For young adults, they can provide the kind of early experience that makes the next step feel more possible, whether that means college, trade training, public service, or a first full-time job.

There is also a broader local pipeline behind these opportunities. Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation’s FutureSuccess program is a paid summer internship program for ages 16 to 24, matching young adults with local employers based on interests and goals. AAWDC says the 2026 application cycle is already closed, which highlights something important for families: these opportunities fill early and deserve attention well before summer begins.
And this is not happening in isolation. The City of Annapolis Office of Community Services says most of its interns came through AAWDC’s FutureSuccess Summer Internship Program, showing how local government and workforce partners are already working together to create real entry points for young people. Anne Arundel County also promotes its County Executive’s Internship Program, helping students connect classroom learning with real workplace experience.
For Anne Arundel County, the benefit is bigger than any one internship. These programs help build a stronger local talent pipeline while giving teens and young adults real exposure to work, responsibility, and possibility. For families, that can mean confidence, direction, references, and a stronger foundation for what comes next.
If we want a stronger local workforce tomorrow, we need to keep creating meaningful early work experiences today.
