Birthdays are funny things. I just had one this past week, and it was nice to hear from my friends, colleagues, and family. The interesting thing is, I had this weird feeling that what I did and loved that day didn’t fit the norm of “having a relaxing day and treating myself.”
Explaining that I had a great day by having two meetings, cleaning the house, and meeting my daughter’s new boyfriend sounded odd if not a little bit sad.
Here’s the truth though: it was one of the best days I’ve had in a long time! If you have a child who is neurodivergent like I do, meeting a new boyfriend who adores your kiddo is the best gift ever!
Not everything is the same for everyone, and the sooner we stop measuring our happiness and success based on what is typical, the sooner we can find happiness in what we have right in front of us. Cheers to finding our own happiness that is likely right here!
