Annapolis is mourning the loss of legendary trial attorney Gill Cochran, co-founder of Cochran & Chhabra. For more than 50 years, Cochran served the community with fierce advocacy in criminal defense, DUI, and personal injury cases, building a reputation as both a courtroom powerhouse and a calming mentor. A Vietnam vet and Yale graduate, he began as a public defender and became a respected local figure. His passing, announced on his firm’s Facebook page, leaves a legacy of lives touched and careers shaped.
USNA Superintendent Promoted to Pentagon
Vice Adm. Yvette Davids will step down as Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy after just 18 months—a historic tenure, as she was the first Hispanic woman to lead the institution. Confirmed in early 2024, Davids will be reassigned to the Chief of Naval Operations staff while Marine Lt. Gen. Michael Borgschulte takes over at the Academy. During her tenure, Davids navigated controversies including book removals and DEI policy rollbacks.
Bob O’Shea, a Republican, is Running for Annapolis Mayor
Republican Bob O’Shea has officially entered the 2025 Annapolis mayoral race, making him the rare GOP candidate in a traditionally Democratic city. A long-time local businessman and father, O’Shea previously ran for mayor in 2013 and state delegate in 2018. His return sets the stage for a notable Republican-Democrat matchup this November.
Construction on Edgewater Recreation Center Moving Ahead

5. Save Our Harbor Formed to Fight Marina, Hotel, and Increased Height Limits on City Dock
A grassroots coalition, Save Our Harbor, has emerged to oppose a proposed 90-slip marina at City Dock. The group warns that the plan could spoil iconic harbor views, threaten maritime heritage, and hamper public access. With a City Council discussion expected July 24, Save Our Harbor is urging residents to weigh in and preserve Annapolis’s historic waterfront character. (NOTE: once word of the meeting got out, the City canceled the meeting saying the marina was no longer being considered by this council)
