Anne Arundel County Layoffs: What Workers Should Do Next

More than 400 local workers are facing job cuts this fall. These Anne Arundel County layoffs may be unsettling for affected families, but local career services and upcoming hiring events can help workers prepare for what comes next.

The Maryland Department of Labor’s official dislocation log lists two layoffs at Amentum’s Hanover operation affecting 382 employees. The first 317 separations are scheduled for October 31, followed by another 65 on November 13.

A separate notice lists 20 layoffs at Crosby Marketing Communications in Annapolis, effective October 30. All three notices classify the reductions as layoffs with no recall, not business closures.

Amentum told The Baltimore Banner that its reductions resulted from “the transition of certain intelligence contracts.”

That distinction matters. When a government contract moves to another company, some work may continue under a new contractor. However, no successor company or employee-transfer plan has been publicly confirmed.

Help for workers affected by the Anne Arundel County layoffs

If your position is affected, ask your employer whether reassignment, severance, continued benefits, or placement assistance will be available. Government contractors should also ask whether a successor company will be hiring for similar positions.

The Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation (AAWDC) provides career coaching, employment preparation, job-search assistance, and qualifying training or certifications at no cost. Its Military Career Connections program also assists veterans, military spouses, and transitioning service members.

Workers who become unemployed can review eligibility and file a claim through Maryland Unemployment Insurance. Maryland recommends gathering personal information and employment history from the previous 18 months before applying.

Upcoming Anne Arundel job fairs

The Fort Meade Community Job Fair will be held September 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Club Meade. It is open to the public, and registration is not required.

That evening, AAWDC will hold an Annapolis High School Community Hiring Event from 5 to 7 p.m. Job seekers should bring résumés and be prepared to meet local employers.
