5 Hydration Tips for Dry Fall Skin

October 23, 2023 by Dr. Molly Walterhoefer
Smiling woman in the fall
Put your best face forward, all year long. Be sure to hydrate and book a skin check with Current Dermatology for specialized skincare recommendations.

Fall brings lots of fun things like pumpkins, sweater weather, and the holidays…but one thing that isn’t so fun is dry fall skin! During this seasonal transition, it’s important to take care of your skin and stay hydrated to avoid those itchy, uncomfortable side effects of dry skin.

Here are a few tips to take care of your skin now and set yourself up for success through the winter:

  1. Switch to a gentle cleanser: As the weather gets cooler, consider using a gentle, hydrating cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. Look for products that are sulfate-free and have a creamy texture.
  2. Exfoliate regularly: Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and allows your moisturizers to penetrate better. Opt for a mild exfoliant and use it 1-2 times a week to avoid over-exfoliation.
  3. Moisturize daily: Invest in a richer, heavier moisturizer for the fall and winter months. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and glycerin, which help lock in moisture and repair the skin’s barrier.
  4. Use a humidifier: Indoor heating can dry out the air, which can also lead to dry skin. Using a humidifier in your bedroom can add moisture to the air and help prevent your skin from drying out while you sleep.
  5. Protect your skin: Don’t forget to apply sunscreen, even in the fall. UV rays can still damage your skin, and protecting it helps maintain its health and hydration.

Book an appointment today to discuss your skin. Current Dermatology has immediate openings for skin checks. Visit currentderm.com to book today.
