Veterans Day is a time for families across the nation to pause, reflect, and give thanks to the men and women who have served our country. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to come together and share stories of courage and sacrifice, to learn from one another, and to celebrate the freedoms that veterans have helped protect. Whether through a simple “thank you,” attending a local ceremony, or spending time with a veteran in your life, this day reminds us that honoring our heroes begins at home, within our own families and communities.
Whether you are a veteran yourself, have a family member or friend who served, or are just looking to make something more out of the day, here are a few ways to honor veterans in Annapolis!
Veterans Classic (Navy Men’s Basketball): November 7, 8:30 PM
Watch the 12th annual Men’s Basketball event at Alumni Hall to support Navy in their matchup against Yale. Veterans from all service branches will be honored throughout this thrilling game, which will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network. Enjoy meals, take a guided tour, or browse the Midshipmen Store while on the Yard.
Honoring Black Veterans Across Time: November 10, 6 PM (virtual)
Join the Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum for an impactful online conversation about the sacrifices and service of Black soldiers throughout American history. Hosted by U.S. Army veteran O. Abiola Akintola, the show takes a critical look at the role of Black veterans today while covering everything from the Battle of Bunker Hill to Iraq and Afghanistan. This is an online discussion that history, service, and social justice fans should not miss.

Veterans Day Ceremony: November 11, 11 AM
The annual Veterans Day ceremony will be held at Memorial Circle and led by Mayor Gavin Buckley and the Fleet Reserve Association. The ceremony will be moved indoors to the Fleet Reserve Club at 100 Compromise Street in the event of bad weather. This annual tradition celebrates the historic Armistice of November 11, 1918, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, and honors all American veterans.
