For 12 years, I have watched as moms in and around Annapolis completely come undone as we try to make the holidays absolutely perfect. As the title would suggest, it’s truly an impossible feat for most and what we wind up seeing is tears…lots of them. So here is a list of top 3 things Annapolis Moms can avoid to make the holidays more enjoyable for OURSELVES!
1) Overscheduling: Make a schedule of every single thing you have been invited to and asked to participate in. Is it doable? Is there anything you can take off of that list? Anything you can skip? If so, JUST SAY NO. Just say: “I’m so sorry but as much as we want to come to your cocktail party this year, we are unable to make it.” I promise, it will be ok!
2) Overworking: Does everything need to be homemade? Can you get away with buying anything? If you need to make things like cookies, can you make one huge batch and freeze some? No one needs to know!
3) Overspending: Will your child truly appreciate every single gift you plan on buying? If so, how long will they play with it? Is it worth going into debt and being stressed in January? Will your child notice if it is a secondhand item? I can’t tell you how many times I see moms making themselves crazy spending money they don’t have only to find that their child plays with it for one hour. Make a budget that you can live with and stick to it! With inflation and interest rates on the rise, don’t put yourself in trouble trying to buy the perfect Christmas, it’s not worth it!
So here is to a relaxing and stress-free Holiday Season! We’ve got this, mamas!
