Supporting Small Businesses on Pink Friday (and Everyday)

November 13, 2023 by Sarah Amyot

Yes…“Pink Friday” is the name of a Nicki Minaj album. It is also a new, up-and-coming movement that started in 2020, led by The Boutique Hub, associated with shopping small. Pink Friday is an annual event held every November before Black Friday. It’s mission: to shop small first (before the flashy, big box stores’ Black Friday sales).

With the holidays around the corner, there are many small businesses in Annapolis to support on Pink Friday, which lands on November 17 this year. Don’t forget to continue shopping small on Black Friday on November 24 (also known as Plaid Friday), Small Business Saturday on November 25, Artist Sunday on November 26, and EVERYDAY after!

Why shop small?

Sarah Garry, owner of B Boutique, in downtown Annapolis says it best: Shop small because you’re supporting “an embodiment of a dream of someone in your community.”

The products that small businesses provide often change…adjusting to stay ahead of the current trends and demands to continue to be relevant for their customers. As a customer, this means seeing more unique, innovative items that you won’t see at big box stores. Every dollar you spend on a small business stays in and supports the local community – it helps the owners continue living their dreams and employ the highschooler down the street.

Small businesses are the heart of our community and give Annapolis a unique personality and small-town vibe.

Here’s a list of places and events to support small this Pink Friday, Small Business Saturday…and year-round!:
