Art & Oysters in the Alley: Local by Design’s October Market

October 16, 2023 by Jamie Alvarenga

Annapolis markets are the best markets, especially when they’re hosted at Local by Design. This Naptown business houses dozens of artisans and vendors. During the weekend of October 27th to 29th, you can peruse treasures while also enjoying live music, shucked oysters, a vintage airstream, and more importantly…adorable pets in costumes. There is no other shopping experience quite like this!

Local by Design is an Annapolis business that has expanded over the years. You may have spotted the downtown location on Main Street or shopped at the Annapolis Mall site. Local by Design is also home to three warehouses that all share an alley in the Annapolis Design District. You can find them at 1818 Margaret Avenue and 1805 C & D Virginia Street. The huge warehouses are home to over 30 local artisans and every fourth weekend of the month, the warehouse area comes alive with local musicians and fun events for all ages.

The October Market kicks off on the evening of Friday, October 27th from 4-7 p.m. Sip and shop during the Sneak Preview event featuring one-of-a-kind finds, such as furniture, home decor, jewelry, apparel, art, and more–all created by local artisans. This unique shopping experience would make for a perfect mom’s night out with friends.

Many of the local artists featured in Local by Design shops capture popular Maryland sights and Chesapeake Bay landscapes.

On Saturday, October 28th (10 a.m.-5 p.m.), the October Market continues with Oysters in the Alley. O’Brien’s Oyster Bar will be hand-shucking oysters for $1 a piece while local musicians fill the atmosphere with sweet tunes. You can also take a peek in a vintage airstream, all while shopping the glorious goods in the Local by Design warehouses.

The market ends with a bang (and a WOOF) on Sunday, October 29th (10 a.m.-5 p.m.). Bring your furry friend for the first annual Bark-O-Ween. Dogs are encouraged to dress in costume and there will be a photographer on-site to snap photos of your Halloween hound. You’ll also get to meet the local artists, enjoy complimentary snacks, listen to live music, and of course… shop to your heart’s content.

Shop one-of-a-kind jewelry, housewares, and clothing at Local by Design stores and markets.

Save the date and get a jump on holiday shopping with these unique, handcrafted finds. Bring the kids, too! There’s a lot to love about this upcoming event at Local by Design in Annapolis.

Local by Design is also open every Wednesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm. Visit the website and Facebook page to learn more, and visit the event page to stay up-to-date on the festivities.
