SPCA’s Adoptable Pet: This Week’s Heartthrob 😸

November 19, 2024 by SPCA of AACO

Meet Abdullah!

Abdullah, the regal cat, appreciates the finer things in life: a good cat tree, fluffy beds, a nice window view, and many head scratches. If you are looking for a fun and loving cat, Abdullah is your guy. He LOVES to play and wand toys are his favorite. He can get rowdy and plays rough at times, but once he’s worn out he loves a lap and craves attention. Abdullah wants to be your one and only cat and gets very jealous of other cats! Abdullah is diabetic, but his condition is being well regulated with diet alone.

Abdullah has a thing for soft blankets and kicker toys, which he will roll around and tumble with before looking for cuddles. When he can’t find his toys, he’ll make the cutest biscuits in his favorite bed! Abdullah likes to explore new places and meet new people, which is what makes him so great at his current job on the welcoming committee for the Shelter Front Office. Stop by to meet him today!

If you are ready to apply, please see our adoption process here.

Spring is the perfec

Spring is the perfect time to kick things up a notch, but your body definitely needs a “grace period” to adjust to the pavement!

🌸 Here are some sprint training tips from community supporter @opal_physicaltherapy . Here is a quick breakdown of why those rules matter and how to apply them effectively:

Why These Rules Work 🧠

• The 5-10 Minute Warm-Up: Think of your muscles like rubber bands. ➰ If you stretch a cold rubber band quickly, it snaps! A dynamic warm-up (leg swings, high knees) increases blood flow and “wakes up” your nervous system. 🔥

• Gradual Mileage (The 10% Rule): A common standard is never increasing your weekly volume by more than 10%. This gives your tendons and ligaments—which heal slower than muscles—time to adapt. 📈

• Hip & Glute Strength: Strong abductors prevent your knees from collapsing inward (valgus stress), which is the primary cause of “Runner’s Knee.” 🛡️

• Addressing Small Aches: In the PT world, we call this “nipping it in the bud.” A tiny tweak in your calf can lead to a gait change that eventually blows out your hip. 🛑
