…Fun for the Whole Fam!
If the idea of Top Golf intrigues you, but you don’t want to drive all the way up into Baltimore, then look no further than our own backyard at the Severna Park Golf Center right on Route 2.
You may have driven past it and assumed it was just a driving range, but it offers so much more. They have a mini golf course which is always a hit with the kids. They have a large driving range where half of it is covered and half of it is open which has had extensive upgrades in the past few years.
The covered portion has heaters above each bay, so you can still get out there with the family when it’s a crisp day. We went when it was snowing, which was fun.
Every single bay has Top Tracer installed which gamifies the experience for everyone from kids all the way up to pros. There are screens in each bay and sensors everywhere to track the balls. You can see how far your shots are going, play specific courses, or play kid games. The kid games don’t expect the balls to be hit very far so it is also not all about how far you can hit it. My son is new to golf and they have small nets and targets not far from where you are hitting that you can aim for so it really is fun for all skill levels. He’s very proud when he hits a good one even if every few don’t go very far so it is nice to watch him boost his confidence.
It is not cost prohibitive to add-on and buckets of balls are cheap. Top Tracer for an hour is $22 for a covered bay and $18 for a non covered bay and it includes a medium basket of balls. It’s $33 for two hours covered or $27 uncovered and that includes a jumbo basket of balls. You can get one lane with the top tracer but then use the lanes around it without it turned on if you have a larger group so people can take turns but everyone isn’t waiting to hit. If you just want to hit balls then a small basket of 40 balls is $8, medium is 80 balls and is $11, large is 120 balls and $14 and Jumbo is 160 balls and is $17 and there is no charge for the lane unless using Top Tracer.
They even sell alcohol there so it is a fun date night option, and the covered bays have great high top chairs with tables so you could bring your own food. My 9-year-old loves going. They have a small par 3 golf course that I am told is being redone in the near future.
This is a perfect activity as the spring weather rolls in and it’s a great hobby to expose the kids to!
