Grand Opening Events for the Brand New Pasadena Riviera Beach Library

April 15, 2024 by Lynne Streeter Childress

Local readers should check out (library pun on-purpose) the newest branch of the Anne Arundel County Public Library system (AACPL), the Riviera Beach branch. The $19 million project comes from Anne Arundel County and the County Library Capital Grant Program, Maryland State Library Agency. The grand opening is on Thursday, April 25, 2024, with special events throughout the weekend including a Bay Breezes and Books party with music, food and games.

The new 20,000-square-foot building doubles the size of the former one and offers an up-to-date experience for patrons, including a community meeting room, four study rooms when you need extra concentration, an outdoor patio, a vending café, expanded areas for both children and teens, and a new collection of books and other materials. This state-of-the-art facility was designed by local architects Grimm and Parke, where you and your kiddos can make a game out of looking for the maritime references, like surfboard- shaped counters , a ceiling that looks like a boat, and details of oars and anchors, all of which reflect Riviera Beach’s nautical environs of the nearby Patapsco River and the Chesapeake Bay.

“We are overjoyed to announce…the new, modern Riviera Beach Library, poised to become a cornerstone of our community for generations to come.… [celebrating] a new chapter in our collective pursuit of education, enrichment and inspiration,” said AACPL CEO Skip Auld.

The festivities start on Thursday, April 25th with an invite-only ribbon cutting in the morning, and then opening to the public at noon, where there will be a free photo booth from 4-6 PM to capture your family’s memories of the fun. The excitement continues on both Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 where the first 250 guests will receive special giveaways. Rounding out the weekend celebration on Sunday, April 28 will be Bay Breezes and Books, a ticketed happy-hour style event for ages 21+, that features food from Bahama Mike’s including oysters and cocktails, live music, a treasure hunt with raffle prizes, and tours of the new building.

For Annapolis Moms and supporters the Bay Breezes & Books event is now $60 per ticket until the day before the event. You can buy tickets at the door for $75. You can buy tickets for this special adult event at https://www.aacpl.net/foundation/baybreezes, and find out more about all the opening events at https://www.aacpl.net/services/riviera-beach.
