Local Food Finds

March 19, 2024 by Sarah Amyot

Your weekly dose of some cool food and dining finds around town

BOGO, Food Truck Nites, Poptails, Taste of Spring, and MD Stuffed Ham

Have a suggestion? We’d love to hear from you – submit it HERE!

  • BOGO (Buy-One-Get-One) Alert! Grab a friend or family member and head to True Food Kitchen in the Annapolis Town Center to buy one entrée and get one free, until the end of the month. Tell them that lunch or dinner is on you – they’ll never know. Dine in or order online (use code: DM8BGL). You can even redeem the deal weekly! True Food Kitchen is a veg-forward restaurant, known for serving up health-conscious, flavorful dishes with clean ingredients held to high standards. Menu favorites include the edamame guacamole, charred cauliflower, Korean noodle bowl, roasted butternut squash sourdough pizza, and the O.G. grass-fed burger.
  • Friday evenings just got a whole lot “funner” for the family. Food Truck Nites (formerly known as Food Truck Fridays) in Annapolis is kicking off for the season this Friday, March 22! From savory to sweet, they’ve got it all – plus live music and car shows on certain evenings. Every Friday from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., there will be 10-12 trucks scheduled to feed your belly – line-ups will be posted on their Facebook page each week.
    • Quick tip: There are a couple picnic tables, but it’s best to BYOC (bring-your-own-chair) or blanket.
    • Address: 275 Harry S. Truman Pkwy, Annapolis, MD 21401
  • Poptail = a frozen, delicious popsicle cocktail. You can pop on over to try one from Tasty Toucan at HERE. a pop-up shop on Thursday, March 21 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. alongside GRAY WOLF Spirits and Saturday, March 23 from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. Tasty Toucan also has paletas (aka popsicles), ice cream sandwiches, and fundaes! Enjoy a yummy, well-deserved treat while you shop and support over 70 local artisans.
    • Address: HERE. a pop-up shop is currently at 1910 Towne Center Blvd, Suite 120, Annapolis, MD 21401 until Monday, March 24.
  • Spring has sprung…the flowers are blooming and the sun is shining – what better way to celebrate than to head downtown for a Taste of Spring on Sunday, April 21. From 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. Enjoy tastings from six restaurants – 49 West Street, Luna Blu, Picante, Rams Head, Stan and Joe’s, and Tsunami – on Annapolis’ historic West Street. The Ballet Theatre of Maryland will perform and prizes will be raffled throughout the event. Tickets are $60 per person, and funds will help defray the cost of entertainment and city fees associated with the Dinner Under the Stars 2024 season.
  • Looking for a Southern Maryland stuffed ham? Today’s the last day to get your order in for Easter (if you celebrate) or the weekend! Local butcher, The Ugly Pig, is offering legs of lamb, ham (regular or Maryland stuffed), potato gratin, salad dressing, and lemon asparagus. If you’re like me (not from Maryland) and not sure what a Southern Maryland stuffed ham is – it’s a ham stuffed with kale, other veggies, and spices. It’s a micro-regional dish that generations of St. Mary’s County families have enjoyed for many years. According to WAMU 88.5 American University Radio, historians trace the dish’s roots to the county’s Black residents, who were enslaved on the region’s tobacco plantations.
