Local Food Finds

July 2, 2024 by Sarah Amyot

Your weekly dose of some cool food and dining finds around town!

Snowballs and Snow Cones, DJ and Diehl’s Market Friday Nights, Coffee and Beignets, Carnival Chicken, and Red, White, and BBQ Grocery Deals

Have a suggestion? We’d love to hear from you – submit it HERE!

  • Snowballs vs snow cones, fluffy ice vs crunchy ice – whatever your preference, there’s many places to satisfy your cravings in Anne Arundel County. Have you seen our list in the summer issue of The Motherlode magazine? Check it out here!
    • Sweet P’s Snow Cones also recently opened at 910 West Street in Annapolis (in the BP gas station parking lot!) Get the popular marshmallow topping finish or venture out and order condensed milk (my personal fav!) Hours are 11:00 am to 9:00 pm daily.
  • Summer Friday nights from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm are for Garten’s DJ and Diehl’s Market, featuring fresh drink and dinner specials inspired by produce from Diehl’s Produce. DJ Crawdads will be spinning live vinyl to set the mood. Last week, there were jumbo Maryland soft shell crabs in spicy red pepper powder with Diehl’s peach aioli and Georgia on my Mind cocktails made with Diehl’s peaches, orange wine, sparkling wine, lemon, and grapefruit bitters. Reservations are encouraged!
  • What goes better with coffee than a hot, billowy fried French beignet? Enjoy both at PJ’s Coffee, now opened in Linthicum Heights at 504 South Camp Meade Road! PJ’s Coffee offers a portfolio of hot drinks, organic tea, iced or frozen beverages made with their original cold brew, and freshly baked or fried pastries. Their famous iced coffees are brewed daily using a special cold-drip process to protect the flavor and strength. They proudly serve only the top 1% of specialty Arabica beans giving customers a gourmet small-batch roasted coffee experience every time. Their beignets are dusted with powdered sugar – close your eyes and you’ll be transported to New Orleans with sounds of jazz music echoing through the streets.
  • If you love carnival food, look no further! Lures Bar and Grill has one of the most unique menu items in the area – their Carnival Chicken features buttermilk chicken tenders on top of a carnival-style funnel cake topped with maple bacon Sriracha gravy and strawberry salsa. Their award-winning Jalapeño Corn Crab Chowder is a must order, and The Best Burger Ever is also a great choice, featuring their house ground short rib, brisket, and chuck pressed and griddled to perfection. Enjoy your food and one of their rotating mocktails (or drink of choice) outdoors under their beautifully crafted timber frame pavilion.
    • Fun Fact: There’s a goldfish cracker in every dish!
  • Red, White, and BBQ! Firing up the BBQ grill for the fourth? Head to your local Safeway and snag the latest deals to complete your grocery list, like buy three and save $3 on fresh produce, such as asparagus, corn, bell peppers, potatoes, eggplant, and tomatoes, buy three and save $3 on mix and match dips, $3.99 watermelons, hot dogs savings, free chips with purchase of guacamole and salsa, and more!

Every Child Known. Every Child Supported.

At AACS, we believe every child is intentionally created in the image of God with unique gifts, abilities, and potential.

Because we are committed to developing the whole child, we recognize that students learn in different ways—and we are dedicated to helping each one flourish spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally.

At AACS, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to discover their God-given strengths, overcome challenges, and grow into the person they were created to be.
