Local Food Finds

August 13, 2024 by Sarah Amyot

Your weekly dose of some cool food and dining finds around town

Local Steak & Fish House, Aloha from Crofton, and Italian HHH (Happy Hour Highlight)

Have a suggestion? We’d love to hear from you – submit it HERE!

  • Inspired by its proximity to the Magothy and Patapsco Rivers,  Two Rivers Steak & Fish House serves its customers daily with food made from scratch. The bar area brings a feeling of nostalgia with its likeness to Pasadena’s old Shore Drive-In. Check out your favorite sports teams on the 110″ screen and surrounding HD televisions. They even have old-school cartoons on a screen for the kiddos! The dining area features Main Street’s Butcher Shop and Bakery with lampposts to light your way. Highlights on their menu include their BBQ ribs (tender baby back ribs, dry rubbed and smoked, finished on the grill with a peppery BBQ sauce) and stuffed shrimp (six jumbo shrimp butterflied and stuffed with a mini crab cake, then baked and served over basmati rice and topped with a lemon butter sauce).
    • P.S. Don’t forget about dessert! Did you know they have a custom bakery in-house? Their bread rolls are freshly baked, and they also make custom cakes for all occasions. After dinner, order the brownie sundae and crème brûlée.
  • If you don’t have any summer vacation plans, don’t fret—you can say “aloha” from Ashling Kitchen & Bar in Crofton. Their Around the States series continues with Hawaiian-inspired food like the Loco Moco Chicken Burger, Tuna Wonton Nachos, Surf’s Up Poke, and Chicken Pineapple Bowl from now until September 1. Even the drinks are on theme! Try a Blue Hawaiian cocktail or a Pineapple Upside-Down mocktail to enhance your experience.
  • HHH (Happy Hour Highlight)! Check out Nonna Angela’s Italian Bistro & Wine Bar for their daily happy hour from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Nonna Angela’s prides themselves on authentic, made-from-scratch Italian food and warm hospitality. Enjoy half-priced appetizers, $8 crushes, and $1 off all beer, wine, and drinks. Favorite appetizers are the Arancini (flash-fried rice balls stuffed with ground beef, peas, and mozzarella cheese served with tomato sauce), Polpette Casserole (hand-crafted meatballs baked with zesty tomato sauce and served with shaved ricotta salata, and garlic crostini), and Crab Bruschetta (char-grilled Italian bread, creamy crab meat, roasted red peppers, and Parmesan cheese, baked to perfection).

Publishing for the 2

Publishing for the 250th anniversary of the United States, Dr. Emily Sneff’s latest book, When the Declaration of Independence Was News, focuses on the nation’s founding document at the moment of its creation in 1776, before anyone knew what the legacy of the Declaration would be or if the United States would win the war against Great Britain. It explores how the Declaration was communicated to people in the new nation and around the Atlantic world and reveals the stories of the many people involved in the process of declaring independence, from printers to soldiers to diplomats to translators.
Dr. Emily Sneff is an early American historian and leading expert on the Declaration of Independence. She earned her Ph.D. in History from William & Mary. She is a consulting curator for exhibitions marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration at the Museum of the American Revolution and Historic Trappe.
