National Oyster Day is August 5, so it’s time to get your slurp on in Anne Arundel County! Let’s shell-ebrate with the most succulent oysters the Annapolis area has to offer. From creative oyster dishes to eco-friendly efforts, here are just a few of the many restaurants in the area where oysters are the star of the show.

Blackwall Hitch
Blackwall Hitch is popular for their rotating oyster preparations, from half‑shell to playful seasonal dressings. If you ever stop by on Thursdays, you’ll be able to get 50% off all fresh oysters. It’s hard to resist this Annapolis staple—these oysters are simply bay-licious!
Boatyard Bar & Grill
From their oyster shooters, oyster frites, stuffed oysters, and daily oyster specials, Boatyard doesn’t mess around when it comes to oyster options. They are also one of many restaurants on this list that shell out for the Bay by donating oyster shells to the Oyster Recovery Partnership’s Shell Recycling Alliance. Talk about slurping with a purpose!
McGarvey’s Saloon & Oyster Bar
McGarvey’s is home of the $1 oyster! Talk about a shell shock deal! Their local oysters on the half shell are fresh, tasty, and offered at family-friendly pricing. You can also enjoy them fried, charbroiled, stuffed, or tucked into an Oyster Po Boy sandwich. Can we have all of the above, please?
O’Leary’s Seafood Restaurant
Beloved for its Buffalo-style oysters, raw selections, and oyster shooters, O’Leary’s puts a spicy twist on tradition. It’s a half-shell with a whole lotta kick!
O’Loughlin’s Restaurant & Pub
O’Loughlin’s shucks expectations with hand-breaded, fried oysters served golden brown on their pub menu. You can’t go wrong with them on a sandwich or all on their own. One bite and you’ll be hooked—line, sinker, and shell!
Sailor Oyster Bar
Tucked into a restored 1896 row house, Sailor dazzles with its expertly shucked oysters and lively vibes. Can we just order a whole tray now? Pair them with one of Sailor’s premium tinned fish selections for an extra treat. You’ll thank us later!
SEASALT ANNAPOLIS
Seasalt serves a shore‑to‑shuck experience with a rotating selection of oysters from near and far. It’s also hard to resist their chorizo-grilled or roasted “seasalt” oysters. I’ll have what she’s having!
Oyster Facts (Bay Style!)
- Eastern oysters can filter up to 50 gallons of water a day, or about two gallons per hour, helping clean the Bay.
- There are public locations (like Philip Merrill Center and Eastport Yacht Club) where you can drop off your own oyster shells. You can easily recycle all your home shucks! Check out a drop-off location near you!
- The Oyster Recovery Partnership, based in Annapolis, oversees shell recycling, volunteer and reef programs, and supports Chesapeake Oyster Week. They have planted more than 11.5 billion oysters in the Bay.
Final Shuck
This National Oyster Day, enjoy oysters that are not only delicious but also benefit the Bay. Whether you’re toasting with oysters in handcrafted sauces or slurping shooters by the water, you can be supporting local restaurants and restoration efforts. That’s a shell of a deal!
