Kent Island: A Charming Day or Weekend Getaway

June 25, 2024 by Nikki Neboshynsky

Why Kent Island?

Kent Island is a fun, relaxed, outdoor oasis close to home. There is an abundance of wonderful places to explore, such as Cross Island Trail, and beaches like Matapeake, Terrapin, and Ferry Point. Make sure to pack your walking shoes, bikes, boats, and plenty of drinks and snacks!

Morning Adventures

Start your morning off with some outdoor activities: take a walk, go biking, or enjoy kayaking.

Kent Island boasts some of the best local seafood, but we suggest saving that for dinner. Instead, explore historic Stevensville for lunch. Great spots include: Amalfi Coast, Love Point Deli, and Rams Head Shore House.

After lunch, embark on a self-guided walking tour of the historic buildings, and don’t miss the chance to treat yourself to some ice cream at Tasty Toucan, Queen Anne County’s only homemade ice cream and award-winning paleta shop.

Afternoon Delights

Next, head over to Ferry Point Park and explore their visitor center and heritage exhibit. If you’re here for fireworks, find a good spot and grab some grub from a food truck.

Special Events and Ongoing Attractions

Got plans on July 4? This fun-filled day can be enjoyed any time. In fact, on Saturday, July 6, historic Stevensville will host its monthly art market, a pet parade, and open tours of historic sites.

No matter when you visit, be sure to check out these highlights:

  • Terrapin Nature Park, which features a 3.25-mile oyster chaff trail that travels through wildflower meadows, woodlands, and other beautiful, natural sights.
  • Matapeake Fishing Pier, whose pier is 650 feet long, lighted, and open 24/7.
  • Paul Reed Smith Guitars Tour, where you can tour the factory that handcrafts top of the line guitars and even play a real PRS!

Whether you are planning a day or weekend visit, make sure to leave early, as traffic on the Bay Bridge and Kent Island can build up fast. But don’t worry—no matter when you leave, the destination is worth the journey. Plan your trip to Kent Island today and immerse yourself in the charm, history, and natural beauty of this delightful destination!
