It’s here. It’s officially here. It’s the time when we see frantic posts in Annapolis Moms that moms are feeling like there is no humanly way possible to do everything on our list to make this time of year perfectly special for ourselves, children, friends, and family members. The key to staying sane and happy during this time of year is accepting that life will never be “perfect.”
These are the things I try to say to myself when dealing with the highs and lows of this season to keep my head on straight:
1) This isn’t what I expected but I enjoyed x, y, and z. (I try to find 3 things I did enjoy.)
2) I couldn’t attend this party or get-together, but I got to spend quality time with my family or catch up on work which relieves my stress.
3) I wasn’t able to get this high demand or overly expensive gift for my child, but I was able to give them something special and will spend extra one-on-one time with my kiddo because that’s what they love most.
4) I will say no to some invitations and will not be going to everything because then I feel overextended and then I get stressed, tired, and sick.
5) Not everyone can be invited to everything and sometimes, friendships change and you are no longer on the short list. I may not have been invited to something and have hurt feelings but it is not a reflection of my self worth.
Lastly, when all else fails, I go into my bedroom and take a half an hour to myself. I watch silly YouTube videos and usually feel refreshed after.
What are tips you use to help you through the stress of this time of year?
