The holiday shopping season is here! (I’m sorry to alarm you, but it’s true!) You may have a friend on your list who seems to have everything already. Or the loved one you only see at Christmastime and aren’t really sure what they like. Let this be the year that you try somewhere fresh, different, and maybe outside of your shopping comfort zone. Once you visit these stores, we’re confident they’ll enter your regular store rotation.
Annapolis Maritime Antiques

In the Maritime Republic of Eastport, this antique shop will have anything you could want for the coastal-themed home of your dreams. Perhaps a ship’s steering wheel could make for your next conversation piece. (And what a conversation that would be!) For something less expensive, there are fascinating nautical collectibles. It’s worth a visit to see the maritime history on display. Just keep your elbows tucked in, because this store is full to the brim with unique objects.

For a shop that gives pure Annapolis vibes (bright, polished, and coastal), head to The Cottage on Main Street. They have women’s clothes that look chic, stylish, and comfortable. In the back is a small children’s section with adorable clothing, books, and toys, including loveys and puzzles. There’s a men’s section with clothes and belts, but also a spouse/partner chair outside where they can wait patiently while you take your time going through all the jewelry, candles, and decor available. Head to this store or their Severna Park location for a gift for anyone in your life.

In Severna Park, Franklin’s Toys is committed to children’s play. A family-run small business, it’s a delightful store to visit with or without a kid in tow. Pick up a Lego set for a birthday party, some teethers for a baby shower, or a board game for the next game night. Even older kids may find something enticing enough to get them off their phones. Staff members are knowledgeable and helpful, which is something you can only get from shopping small and local.

A blink-and-you’ll-miss-it location right off of Central Avenue on Riva Road, this small garden center is bigger on the inside. Out front of the store, you’ll find a selection of both seasonal outdoor plants and house plants. Inside, the store works with local businesses, farmers, and artisans to sell their wares, and you’ll find everything from essential oils to cute crocheted animals. And if you go even farther into the store, you’ll find a greenhouse with a lush and cozy meeting space. It’s not just a place to shop, but a place to feel calm and centered.

Annapolis Moms loves this pop-up shop supporting local artisans and designers. Its newest location is right on Main Street. Check out their art prints, glassware, candles, and more. But you’d better hurry, because the current selections will be available only until November 9. Then they will have holiday offerings from November 14 to December 21. After that, they’re on to the next location. Don’t worry, though! They’re an Annapolis staple and will stay close.
Homestead Gardens

If you only know Homestead Gardens as a place for plants of all kinds, you’re in for a treat—literally! They have their Homestead Pantry with artisanal food products perfect for the season, including hot chocolate bombs and boxes of cookie mix. The center has home decor for every style and budget, both seasonal and perennial (just like their plants). And back in Evelyn’s Boutique you can find the perfect earrings or purse in the same space as children’s books and toys. As a bonus, go when their Beer Farm is open so the kiddos can run amok on the playground while you enjoy a brew. Or you can visit their locations in Smyrna or Severna Park for more shopping fun. But the Davidsonville location is always worth the drive, no matter where you’re coming from!

This consignment shop in Edgewater is run by two moms who clearly know a lot about style. The store is small but highly curated. You can find formal dresses right at the front for your next event or everyday items throughout. There is a small section for children’s clothes near the back, but it includes items from all ages and sizes. You can even find toddler-sized Timberland boots! Give them a try on your next shopping trip.

This long-running consignment shop may not be a secret, but it’s worth a visit if you only know them as a store for kid’s clothes. Over the years they have brought in clothes for all ages, in addition to accessories and home goods. They keep their inventory fresh and seasonal, so you can grab something that will be appropriate for the weather (unlike some department stores, which only seem to sell clothes for the next season).
