Happy Hops & Hours: Oktoberfest, Vineyard Picnics, and Brews for a Cause!

October 1, 2024 by Tyler Ingle

As the weather starts to cool off, fall provides a great opportunity to go out with friends and family to grab some drinks and food. Whether it’s a Friday night after a long week of work or a celebratory Saturday, there are plenty of places to visit. Here are some seasonal events and/or specials you don’t want to miss.

Aiming to bring a touch of Bavaria to the states, Garten is hosting its very own Oktoberfest, through October 6. In Severna Park, on Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Garten opened in 2022 to combine old-world cuisines from Germany, France, and Europe with modern twists, created from locally and sustainably sourced ingredients. Savor the flavors of different Pherm-Beers. Indulge in German cuisine featuring sauerkraut, schnitzel, and more, highlighted by a giant, two-pound pretzel! Enjoy live music, “Hop-Tails”, dancing, games, and more outside! Oktoberfest is a perfect opportunity to reconnect with friends and family.

What better way to feel the fall than being outdoors? Dodon Vineyards, located in Davidsonville, is offering happy hours every Friday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, taking place on their outdoor pavilion and hillside area. The happy hour will feature Dodon wines, paired with several tasty, regionally sourced cheeses, charcuterie boards, and other snacks. Looking to include the kids? All those who attend can bring their own picnic food, a perfect family-friendly (and dog-friendly) Friday night outing! Reservations must be made ahead of time and may not exceed more than 12 guests per table. Groups larger than 12 can contact hannah@dodonvineyards.com for more info.

AACPL kicked off Cheers for AACPL Tuesday, but there’s still time to support your local library. Taking place on October 12 at Pherm Brewing from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm and October 24 at Crooked Crab Brewing Co. from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, these local breweries will feature special, hand-crafted, elusive drinks. Enjoy a generous 20% discount during the event, with the sales being donated to all 16 AACPL branches. Spend or donate $10 or more to take home a new limited-edition, specially-designed, pint glass.

Whether you’re looking for a touch of Europe, a family-friendly picnic outing, or a way to give back to the community, there are plenty of options this fall to enjoy a happy hour!
