Supernovae: When Stars Go Boom!
September 23 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
FreeDon’t miss Supernovae: When Stars Go Boom! Stars much more massive than our Sun undergo spectacular, violent deaths: they explode! The carbon, nitrogen, and other atoms that they forged in their nuclear furnaces go on to form the basis of clouds of gas and dust. From there, solar systems and planets form, including our own.
Join us as retired NASA astronomer, Dr. Rich Isaacman, returns by popular demand. He’ll describe these supernovae: what causes them, whether we can predict them, and how we study them with both space and ground-based telescopes. We will even see an actual video of one of them in action!
Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Register here!
This event is part of the Maryland City at Russett Library monthly Virtual Visit series, where we hope to present topics of interest to adults.
