The Best Places to Release the Zoomies!
With the weather finally warming up, our furry friends can get out and about again. Many people walk their dogs along the same routes in the same areas. It becomes routine. But sometimes, just like us, dogs need a change of scenery too. Annapolis and the surrounding area offer plenty of dog parks, perfect for burning off the zoomies and making new friends for both you and your pet.
One of the most well-known outdoor spots for humans, Quiet Waters Park also features a dedicated dog park and beach, because everyone deserves to enjoy the views. Open daily during park hours, the dog park includes two separate enclosed areas for small and large dogs, both with agility equipment and plenty of space to play. There are also plenty of benches for owners to relax while their pups run around. Note that the park is closed every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. for cleaning and maintenance. The dog beach is an off-leash shoreline that is partially enclosed and reserved for dogs and their owners. Swimmers are not permitted. It is a great place for water-loving pups to cool off or soak up the sun.
In Gambrills, Bell Branch Park is a large multi-field complex with a dog park tucked toward the back. It includes separate areas for small and large dogs, similar to many other parks. One standout feature is the kiddie pools, which are perfect for helping dogs cool off on hot days. With a mix of grass, dirt, and concrete, it is also a popular spot for social pups.
Broadneck Park, just off College Parkway in Annapolis, is one of the larger options in the area. The dog park features a double-gated entry for added safety, along with fresh water and shared bowls. Separate spaces for large and small dogs offer plenty of room to roam, and there are often toys available for use. The park is known for its cleanliness, and the friendly community is a big reason people keep coming back.
In Pasadena, Downs Park is home to one of two dog beaches in the Anne Arundel County Parks and Recreation system. Humans are not permitted to swim in the designated dog area, as it is reserved for pets. Fencing is limited, so dogs should have reliable recall. In addition to the sandy shoreline, there are both sunny and shaded areas to enjoy.
Located in Edgewater, Loch Haven Park offers a range of amenities for people, including baseball fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, and trails. For dogs, it is more of a hidden gem and is typically less crowded than other parks. The dog park includes fenced-in areas for both small and large dogs, along with a mix of sun and shade and access to fresh drinking water.
Towsers Branch Park in Odenton is a smaller, quieter option open from dawn to dusk. In addition to trails, a picnic area, and a basketball court, the park features a single dog area. It is a fully fenced-in field with minimal equipment. This makes it ideal for off-leash play and a good game of fetch.
With so many places for dogs to run, play, cool off, and explore, the greater Annapolis area has plenty to offer you and your four-legged companion.
