Spring and sports go hand in hand around Annapolis, and there’s no better way to experience a college game than by supporting your local Midshipmen. Whether you’re looking to take the family to a game, plan a fun date, or just enjoy some alone time, the U.S. Naval Academy offers plenty of options. Let’s dig into what the spring season has to offer for Navy sports.
Lacrosse has forever been a staple in Naptown culture, a legacy that has bled into both the men’s and women’s lacrosse programs at Navy. Both programs compete at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, with admission being free for all women’s regular season contests and $10 for all men’s regular season contests. The women won the Patriot League championship last year before being eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. They have also reached the league final three times in the past four years. The women also made the NCAA Tournament from 2010 to 2013, followed by a Final Four run in 2017 and an Elite Eight run in 2018. The men’s program bowed out in the quarterfinals last year, after reaching the semifinals in 2023. Historically, the men reached the NCAA quarterfinals in 2016, 2008 and 2005 and advanced to the championship game in 2004.
Navy baseball, which began its season in February, is well known for having a family-friendly atmosphere, keeping both adults and kids entertained. The Midshipmen play their games at the Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium, which is not on the Yard, making it easy access for everyone. Renovated in 2007, this stadium holds 1,500 seats. The team kicked off conference play on March 13, on the road at Lehigh, before coming home for the conference opener against Bucknell on March 21, with a doubleheader at 1 PM and 3:30 PM. After finishing 26-25 last year, including an 18-14 home record, the Midshipmen will be hoping to make a deeper postseason run this season.
The men’s and women’s tennis programs have a full slate of matches this spring, taking place at the USNA Tennis Courts, right next to the Brigade Sports Complex. The men’s regular season will host 11 home matches in March and April before Patriot League postseason play begins on April 23. The women begin postseason play on April 17 after hosting eight home matches between March and April.
Rugby will conclude its season this spring with a March 21 exhibition before heading to the D1A National Championship Playoffs. Looking for some more unique offerings? The Naval Academy also sponsors a number of more niche, lesser-known sports. From rifle and rowing to sailing, squash and more, there are plenty of games to watch, whether it’s your first time or you’ve been a lifelong fan. Learn more on the Naval Academy Athletics website.
Notice: The Naval Academy recently updated their access restrictions. Be sure to check out the Naval Academy Athletics website before attending a game.
