We all know the terrific B&A Bike Trail that runs for miles. It’s close and convenient but if you are looking for a change of pace, The South Island Bike Trail is just over the Bay Bridge in Stevensville on Kent Island. It’s very pretty (not quite as pretty as the Cross Island Trail which we’ll get to in another post), but it’s really fantastic!
Beginning at Matapeake State Park and ending at Romancoke Fishing Pier, the paved trail runs parallel to Route 8 for about 7 miles, so it is a little noisier than being tucked away in the woods. I think to the end and back we did 11.5 miles. The trail ends at the Romancoke Pier and Park is on the water and the view is very nice. There is a parking lot right next to where the trail starts that you can easily see on a map. The South Island Trail is a great alternative to the B&A Trail to mix things up a bit.
