Hidden in the basement of the Pip Moyer Recreation Center in Annapolis is a fantastic gem known as Ballocity. We have had many debates in my family whether it is pronounced Ball-O-City or if it is pronounced like a pun on “velocity,” but either way we have spent many afternoons there, especially on rainy or cold days.
Ballocity is similar to a giant McDonald’s play area with tubes, slides, netting and plenty to climb in and on, and in the middle and around the middle are air-powered interactive stations that shoot foam balls or levitate foam balls. I am 6 foot 4 inches tall and had no issues following my son through the whole climbing structure. In fact, I found it to be quite fun although it certainly wore me out!
They do have a very small little kids area on one side that reminds of the play areas you see at malls. When my son was younger and we went more frequently, we were often the only people there. The Pip Moyer Center also has a rock climbing wall.
If the weather is nice, you can venture outside to the Truxton Park Trail if you want to go for a short hike, and there is a great playground near the trail. Pricing depends on if you are an Annapolis Resident or not, but either way, it’s affordable. The charge for non-members for Ballocity is currently $6.00/resident and $7.00/non resident, no charge for parents.
