Women’s History Month Events in Annapolis

February 27, 2026 by Elizabeth Krischer

Women’s History Month in Anne Arundel County highlights the amazing accomplishments of women who helped build this country and fought for the rights of its citizens.

A Little History

Harriet Tubman not only rescued about 70 enslaved people and led them to freedom, but also worked as an armed scout and spy during the American Civil War. According to the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway, “In 1863, she became the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the war, liberating more than 700 slaves.” The Army of the Severn was a group of suffragists (part of the Just Government League) who marched from Baltimore to Annapolis in 1914 in support of women getting the vote. And Anne Catharine Hoof Green took over her late husband’s publishing business, turning the Maryland Gazette into an important source of information and, if you think about it, paving the way for Annapolis Moms Media!

But this month is not just a history lesson. It’s a celebration of accomplishments that might have gone under the radar for too long. No matter who you are, you can learn something meaningful by checking out these events.

Celebrate Women’s History at the Museum of Historic Annapolis

Address: 99 Main Street, Annapolis, MD 21401

Day/Time: Saturday, March 14, 11 AM to 3 PM

Price: $7 General Admission (8+); FREE for Children 7 and under, HA Members, and SNAP/WIC through the Museums for All program

Learn what it was like to live as a woman throughout Annapolis’ history at this family-friendly event. Meet living historians who will tell you about following military camps during the Revolutionary War or fighting for the right to vote. Your kiddos will also be able to participate in a special craft, or enjoy reading in the museum’s Book Nook. You can join anytime throughout the day and all activities are included.

She Speaks: Black Women Artists and the Power of Historical Memory

Address: 84 Franklin Street, Annapolis, MD 21401

Day/Time: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM

Price: Free! Donations welcome.

Bringing together artists whose works span both time and place, She Speaks is an exhibition that tells stories of Black women from historical, familial, and personal perspectives. Viewed alongside both Women’s History Month and the 250th anniversary of the United States, these artworks aim to show “Black women as active participants in the making of this country rather than passive bystanders[.]” They also encourage us to ask, “Whose stories have been told? Who are the people telling our stories? And in what ways can we tell our own stories?”

The exhibition opened on February 7 and will continue until January 16, 2027, so you can see the amazing artwork long after March is over. And while you’re visiting the museum, you can learn about the heroic acts of Black women across Maryland history, including Harriet Tubman, Lear Green, Gloria Richardson, and more.

HER Maryland: Stories That Inspire

Address: Chesapeake Arts Center, 194 Hammonds Lane, Brooklyn Park, MD 21225

Day/Time: Monday to Thursday, 10 AM to 8 PM. Saturday to Sunday, 10 AM to 2 PM.

Price: Free!

This exhibition calls on artists to highlight Maryland women Icons. According to their website, “From pioneers and trailblazers to artists, leaders, and changemakers, each work illuminates the vision, strength, and creativity that have shaped Maryland’s culture.” It opens on March 11 and continues until April 7. And on March 26, from 6 to 8 PM, there will be a free gallery reception to commemorate the artists and the women they honor—with complimentary drinks and light snacks.

Sue Foley: One Guitar Woman

Address: Rams Head On Stage, 33 West Street, Annapolis, MD 21401

Day/Time: Friday, March 13 at 8 PM, doors open at 7 PM

Price: Ranges between $41 and $61

Originally from Canada, Sue Foley is a blues singer and guitar virtuoso. Her Women’s History Month tour stops at Rams Head on Stage in Annapolis on March 13 and features songs from her 2024 album, One Guitar Woman. Watch her not just cover, but embody the songs of guitar legends including Elizabeth Cotten, Lydia Mendoza, Maybelle Carter, and more.

Women, Wine, & Wisdom™ Annapolis – Investing 101

Address: Rams Head Tavern, 33 West Street, Annapolis, MD 21401

Day/Time: Wednesday, March 18 from 7 to 9 PM

Price: $35, or free if you are a client

Hosted by Ann M. Covington, CFP®, CPWA®, of CovingtonAlsina, this event will give attendees the opportunity to get financial advice in a relaxing setting. Think of it as a girls’ night out, but with new friends and investment talk. According to the website, the evening will start with “a half-hour of social time, networking, wine, and appetizers, followed by a roundtable discussion,” which will be “a crash course in investing.”

You can register for this event here. And because CovingtonAlsina focuses on supporting women’s financial journeys all year round, you can find more women-centered events on their website.

Michelle Obama Awards

Address: Maryland Hall, 801 Chase Street, Annapolis, MD 21401

Day/Time: Tuesday, March 31 at 6 PM

Price: Free but registration is required.

These awards are presented to women who, according to Anne Arundel County, “exemplify many of [First Lady Michelle Obama’s] traits and commitment to social causes such as education, nutrition, health, social consciousness, and overall gender parity.” The Office of Community Engagement & Constituent Services partners with the Caucus of African American Leaders to present this event. This year’s theme, according to the County Executive’s office, is “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” and “[recognizes] women whose vision, leadership, and commitment are creating lasting, positive change in our communities and paving the way toward a more equitable and sustainable future.”

The ceremony will also include the Few of the Many Awards, honoring African American leaders, which had been postponed from its February 23 date due to the winter storm.
