Teens Bringing Out Their Inner Katniss

February 28, 2023 by Louben Repke
Children playing dodgebow

Ever wished you could be as fast and fearless as Katniss, or as brave as Merida? Are your kiddos dreaming of Green Arrow, Robin Hood, or Hawkeye? We don’t have capes or fancy tricks up our sleeves. But we do know where you can find bows,  arrows, and a whole lot of fun.

DodgeBow is an exhilarating, team-based activity that uses all your survival skills in a fast-paced game that combines the best elements of dodgeball and paintball. Contestants face each other on the field of play, retrieving, dodging, aiming, and working together for the win. It’s an ideal activity for kids aged six and above. Younger kids play with nerf-tipped arrows, while older kids at heart play with foam-tipped ones.

Dash to the center of the turf field, grab as many arrows as you can, then run back to home base, aim, and shoot! The goal is to tag as many of your opponents as possible. Game modes reminiscent of dodgeball focus on clever ways to recapture arrows, free teammates stuck in a 20-second timeout, and ensure your team ends up with the most untouched players.

Archery delivers a steady adrenaline rush, but safe, flat-faced, foam-tipped arrows and bows make for friendly gameplay. There’s all of the fun of paintball without the stinging pain from pellets.

DodgeBow play occurs on a safe, fenced-in turf field, and contestants wear goggles to protect their eyes. No other equipment is needed, though long athletic pants are recommended. Two teams of up to 3 to 10 players on each side are called to arms and battle it out in the arena for an hour of action-packed fun. Players can work individually to target opponents or join their group in a game of strategy and teamwork. Game modes like The Medic, Capture the Flag, Protect the King or Queen, and No Loyalty make time pass quickly. Every game is fresh and fun!

DodgeBow is tres haute in Canada, where it was founded. Louben Repke, the owner of DodgeBow Annapolis, says the combination of sport and fun draws kids and adults alike. “In Canada and New England,  DodgeBow is a popular activity. In fact, it’s common to find league play there. People love it so much they often play multiple times each week. I brought DodgeBow to the Annapolis area to give kids and adults the ultimate indoor birthday party, corporate team building, or enjoyable time with family and friends.”

When Your Child Is S

When Your Child Is Sick, Access Matters / Here When Your Child Needs Care - Especially During Sick Season

We’re proud to partner with community sponsors like SP Docs. Here’s a message they wanted to share with our community:

Cold and flu season is in full swing, and many families are feeling the strain of long wait times and limited availability. We’re currently seeing a high volume of colds, flu, strep throat, RSV, and stomach bugs. Our office offers in-house PCR testing, which provides 95% accuracy compared to the 50-75% accuracy of home tests, to help us rapidly identify illnesses and streamline treatment. Our nursing team is also available throughout the day to answer questions and offer support, so parents aren’t left guessing.

We make every effort to provide same-day sick appointments for our patients, and we carefully separate sick visits from well-child visits to protect every child who walks through our doors.

When your child needs care, we’re here with timely care and clear guidance.

Visit spdocs.com or call 410-647-8300 to learn more about joining our practice and how we support families throughout the year.
