Hi there, I’m new here. Well, not really, since I’ve been a member of the Annapolis Moms Facebook group since 2017, and I’ve been writing for Annapolis Moms Media since last summer. But I’m new here in the Letter section of your weekly newsletter.
As your Editor in Chief, you’ll see me pop in here every other week and tell you a little about what we’re doing here at Annapolis Moms–upcoming stories, cool events we attended or plan to attend, and basically anything we think will help support this wonderful community of moms and families.
Lisa asked me recently, “What did make you decide to take this job?” and, as writers often do, I wanted more time to think about my answer. I think I said something about an exciting opportunity, and we moved on to our next item of business.
But here is the real answer, the one I’ve had time to think about:
I had no idea what I was getting into when I said yes. I mainly knew I didn’t want to say no; saying no is not in my nature when it comes to stepping up to tackle a challenge. I was feeling nervous and excited, humbled and lucky, all with a healthy dose of imposter syndrome thrown in the mix. But I decided to take the jump, because I knew up was the only way I wanted to go. I also thought about the tremendous amount of good that comes from this community. If I can help amplify that mission, I am here for it.
What is that magic equation that spurs people to make the leap? How do you know when the time is right? I imagine this answer is different for everyone. Perhaps it’s out of frustration with the status quo. Perhaps it’s when we’re tired of doing the work for someone else when we could be doing it for ourselves. Perhaps, as it was for me, it’s some combination of persistent hustle, being in the right place at the right time, and deciding to take a chance on ourselves and on building something that matters
In our second issue of The Motherlode, which you’ll be seeing in early April, we are excited to bring you stories of moms and women who have made the leap– women who have started their own businesses, women who are leaders, women following their passion.
Thanks for reading a little about my story, and I can’t wait to hear all of your stories in the group and in Issue 2!
If you ever want to reach out, I’m all ears for this community! We love to hear your ideas and feedback, as well as how we can support your family-friendly events and causes. Email me at editor@annapolismomsmedia.com.
