March offers the first glimpse into spring, with warmer temperatures and longer days. For many, March is the first time of each new year where people truly immerse themselves in nature, whether it be going for a hike or buying your first outdoor plant.
Fortunately, thanks to our friends at Homestead Gardens, there are plenty of options and opportunities to get spring started. We’ve compiled a list below, but feel free to head to their website and calendar to learn more.
Yoga in the Greenhouse is a great opportunity to be surrounded by a sunny greenhouse, with natural energy and smells. Taking place on March 1, this beginner-level class will take place at both the Severna Park and Davidsonville locations.
Looking for a bigger trip? On March 3, departing from the Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville, you can take a bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show. For $100, you will receive round-trip transportation, admission to the flower show, morning coffee and muffins, re-entry privileges, and an exclusive 20% coupon for Homestead Gardens (valid March 3-9). Check-in will take place at 8:30 AM, with departure at 9 AM. The bus will head back from the flower show at 5:30 PM, with an expected arrival back in Davidsonville at 8 PM.
March 7 will feature a more unique experience with the Bonsai Workshop with Danny Coffey of Tree the People at the Davidsonville store. Taking place from noon to 3 PM, this class will blend practical practice with easy-to-understand instruction so you can successfully shape and maintain your own bonsai at home. Years of training and experience, including studying in Japan and working with collections in Washington, D.C., have allowed Daniel’s to hone in his expertise and instruction. Every participant will go home with a 4.5-inch bonsai starter plant, a 5.0-inch bonsai pot, tools, and more. The cost per person is $100.
Pests, Problems, & Plant First Aid is a free weekend class, taking place from 10 to 11 AM on March 8 (in Severna Park) and March 9 (in Davidsonville). Attendees will learn how to proactively treat any issues that may arise while caring for plants, while also being able to identify different pests. Make sure to reserve your spot online!
March 14 will have two events; Window Sill Culinary Herb Planter Workshop and Garden to the Max! with Award-winning Author Teresa Woodard. The workshop will take place from 2 to 3 PM in Severna Park, with Davidsonville hosting the workshop on March 16 from 11 AM to noon. Those attending the workshop, for $50, will choose three different culinary herbs for your home space, before planting them in a window-friendly planter, all while learning how to keep them alive and thriving. The Garden to the Max! event will take place at the Davidsonville location from 11 AM to 1 PM, for $25, with up to 100 spots. Woodard will use her experience to talk about how different gardeners across the United States use their own style and terrain to create displays of art and collections of natural spaces.
Whether you want to learn more about gardening, get your hands in the soil or simply hear about the beauty of nature, Homestead Gardens has something for you this March.
