Having time off from school is essential for students, but for working families, navigating childcare for school breaks can be overwhelming. Whether you are in need of total coverage or just a day’s worth, here are some options for local families to make coverage easier while providing kids with fun and enriching activities!
School is Out!
For children ages 5-13 who love playing sports and games, Benfield Sportscenter in Millersville offers half-day and full-day options for Spring Break camps. School-aged children can spend either the entire day, mornings, or afternoons, playing games and sports inside Benfield’s climate-controlled gym where they will work on sportsmanship and teamwork. Parents will need to bring both snacks and lunch, and aftercare is provided. Single day registration is also possible for families who do not need coverage for the entire week. Benfield also offers sibling discounts for families in need of coverage for more than one child.
The Great Outdoors
If your children love being outside, the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM) has a different outdoor program for each day of Anne Arundel County’s Spring Break. Each day from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., campers spend their time exploring AMM’s 12-acre campus, learning about plant and animal life. AMM believes all weather is good weather, so campers should dress appropriately for outdoor time, no matter the forecast. Each day costs $75 for family-level members of AMM and $85 for non-members, with an hour of additional aftercare available for an additional fee.
For Your Little Ones
At KidStrong in Annapolis, all potty-trained 4-9 year-olds are invited to have a blast while working on their character development as well as physical and brain development. Each day of KidStrong camp is structured to include a great deal of physical activity as well as STEAM-related activities such as building your own obstacle course. Families will need to provide a lunch and snack as well as a water bottle.
Animal Adventures
For students ages 4-11, Eco Adventures in Millersville has a different animal-related adventure for each day of Spring Break. For $105 per day, children spend 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (with before and aftercare available) focusing on the various types of animals who live at Eco Adventures and learning about their habitats, diets, and adaptations. There are hands-on opportunities for cleaning and feeding the animals as well, including hedgehogs and even alligators! Eco Adventures is also offering camp days on April 4th and 5th, which is helpful for those families whose Spring break doesn’t line up with the county schedule.
Spring Break camps can be a fun way for your children to spend their time off from school, and you will have peace of mind knowing they are still in good hands while you are at work.
