If you’ve walked by RASA Juice Shop on Maryland Avenue and wondered what it’s all about, I completed their 3-Day Reboot just after the new year and have the answers to all your questions!
RASA Juice Shop offers their Signature Reboots for one, two, three, five, or seven days. These packages offer five juices per day plus a “power shot” (lemon, ginger, cayenne pepper). There is a set selection and order of juices for each day of the reboot (all designed with care by a nutrition expert) but any juice can be substituted for something else for taste or dietary preferences. RASA also offers other healthy options like Clean Eating Meal Packs, healthy snacks, and protein smoothies, as well as locally made home goods and earth-friendly beauty products.
What was it like drinking all that juice?
To start out- I will say I chose three days when I knew I didn’t have any special events or meals out planned, which also happened to be busy days to keep me distracted and moving (for me, that was Sunday-Tuesday). So my first tip for fasting of any kind is to plan ahead.
The juices were super convenient to grab and go, and I drank more than one in the car running from one place to another.
I like the variety of the juices; you never drink the same juice twice in one day. My favorite juice was the Master Glow (pineapple, apple, ginger, mint, coconut water) which I had subbed for the standard Refresh (grapefruit, lime, mint) flavor.
Did you eat anything else?
I drank one cup of coffee with a splash of milk each morning, and sometimes I had herbal tea or sparkling water in the afternoon or evening. No cheats–I swear! Although I did deeply inhale a plate of bacon at one point– does that count as cheating?
Did you exercise and have energy during the Reboot?
Yes, I did yoga and took walks each day. I also noticed that I slept more deeply and woke refreshed.
What was the hardest part?
Two things were difficult- the first is that I was still cooking for my kids, so it was tempting to taste the food while I was cooking.
The second thing was learning how sneaky my brain could be in trying to get food. I had little thoughts pop in my head like, “Hey, I have an hour to kill, maybe I should tell mom to meet me for breakfast!” or “We still haven’t tried that new restaurant…I know! We should get take-out from there tonight!” … only to remember I was on the Reboot. These moments were disappointing, but I also couldn’t be mad at my brain for its creativity.
Did you have any adverse health effects?
At one point, I felt like I was starting to have a headache, but I knew from other reading I had done about fasting and cleanses that it probably meant I wasn’t drinking enough water, so I loaded up on water and the headache went away.
Did you lose weight?
Yes, by the end of Day 3 I had lost about 5 pounds, but that has fluctuated on and off since ending the Reboot. But my goal with the Reboot wasn’t to lose weight but rather to lose that post-holiday feeling of excess, and it definitely helped me do that! I can tell I have been making healthier choices since ending the Reboot. It’s almost like a dietary pause button.
Weren’t you hungry though?
Other than a tummy grumble here and there, no, I did not feel hungry. At times, I actually felt totally full after having a juice, like I had eaten a full meal.
Would you do it again?
Yes, absolutely! During the course of this Reboot, I was thinking how great I would feel if I did this once a month.
Thanks 3-Day Reboot! It was real…and next year, I’m trying Green January!
