The all-new production of Peter Pan premiered this week at The Hippodrome and has several more shows through February 25. You can catch two shows each on Saturday, February 24 (2 p.m. and 8 p.m.) and Sunday, February 25 (1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.). This is a “newly-imagined” production of the classic book written by J.M. Barrie, with a diverse cast and several new songs.
Thanks very much to the Hippodrome for welcoming Annapolis Moms Media to the media night production. I took my second-grader and that is about the perfect age for this production, though I would say ages 4-12 would also be a great fit. It’s really an all-ages show, since over half the patrons around us did not have any kids with them! The ushers were very kind about making booster seats available so kids could see better.

Overall, we really enjoyed the show. If you like Broadway, you will enjoy the amazing vocals of Peter and Wendy (Nolan Almeida, Hawa Kamara) and fun dance numbers. Captain Hook is played by Cody Garcia (who also plays Mr. Darling), is voiced as a Scottish scoundrel and steals the show. We loved the early scene of Peter chasing his shadow. I don’t want to spoil any surprises, but it’s a definite “how did they do that?!” moment. My son also liked Peter’s “crowing” scenes, and I’ve heard him crowing to himself around the house. The moments of Peter bursting through the Darlings’ window were also pure magic!
I highly recommend this production, and as you may have read in Frank Bolinksy’s column, The Hippodrome couldn’t be an easier foray into Baltimore. With a parking garage right next to the theater, Nando’s across the street for a cheap and cheerful dinner, and snacks (and wine!) available at concessions, it’s an easy, fun night out.
