Shepherding candy-crazed kids down darkened streets on Halloween night is tough work. Parents get the short end of the Pixy Stix when it comes to trick-or-treating. Flip the script by offering Halloween treats like these to the chaperoning superheroes and people the cool house on the block:
Candy
What parent hasn’t raided a kid’s Halloween bag under the guise of a candy safety check? After treating the Princess and Spiderman at your door, spare a peanut butter cup for mom and dad. Bonus points if you give them “boozy” sweets, such as individually wrapped moonshine candy or bourbon-infused chocolate balls.
Glow Wear
Although parents stand in the shadows during trick-or-treat transactions, they still need to be seen. A glow necklace or bracelet will help kids find Mom and Dad in the dark.
Scratch Offs
Handing out Maryland Lottery’s one-dollar scratch-offs will win you “Halloween House of the Year.”
Spirits
If you know the parents aren’t driving, a Jello Shooter or mini bottle (50mL) of spirits will take the chill off the long walk.
Oysters
This one may come as a shock! Last Halloween, however, one of our Annapolis Moms Media staff members and her family walked up to a home and found the most Annapolitan surprise. In addition to candy for the kids, adults were offered fresh-shucked oysters. It was a memorable treat! Plus, Halloween is the perfect time to serve oysters since October marks the beginning of peak season.
Including adults in your Halloween hand-out won’t stop their kids’ bedtime sugar shock, but it’ll help them handle it with a smile. Happy Halloween!
