If you have children that are passionate board or card gamers, or if they are intrigued and want to get into those types of activities, then this week’s highlight is for you!
I am a huge fan of Savage Mill in Savage. They have a great restaurant, a lot of unique shops, and fantastic trails. They also have one of the most unique game stores I have ever been to: Omnihedral.
It’s an All-You-Can-Play buffet at Omnihedron at Savage Mill. Photo’s courtesy of Frank Bolinsky.
Omnihedral is a game store that caters to tabletop games and STEM activity kits. They have a storefront and then in the back, there is a very large area for people to actually play games. They currently have over 4100 games in the store lining the walls that people can not only play there but rent and take home! You can rent a game for $5 for two weeks, take it home, and see if you like it. If you decide you want to buy the game, they put that $5 towards the purchase price.
On the first Saturday of every month, it is free to go all day and try out all the games you want– it’s an “all-you-can-play” buffet, if you will. Any other day it is only $5 to sit all day playing the games. For older kids and teens, presuming they are mature enough to be left to their own devices, parents can let the kids play while they hit up the coffee shop, the restaurant, peruse all the antique shops inside, or do a hike along the river. The Bollman Truss Bridge is a great site to check out!
They also do a paint night roughly every other Wednesday between 6:30-10 p.m. According to one of the co-owners, Laura, Omnihedral is taking over the space above the store and are looking to offer more once that happens, such as chess lessons and some kind of FNM/commander league potentially. They are seeking input from the community about what we would love to see offered!
Don’t forget to visit Omnihedral’s website for details and store hours. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or new to the scene, Omnihedral promises an unforgettable experience at Savage Mill.
