Tourism is big business in Anne Arundel County, supporting restaurants, hotels, shops, attractions and thousands of local jobs. Now, a new leadership team will help guide what comes next.
Visit Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (VAAAC) has announced its FY2027 Board of Directors and Executive Committee, with Donnie Sutton, general manager of the BWI Airport Marriott, serving as board chair.

Sutton brings 45 years of hospitality experience with Marriott International, where he began as a banquet houseman before advancing through management and executive roles. He also serves as vice chair of the Maryland Hotel Lodging Association.
Why Anne Arundel County Tourism Matters
The leadership transition comes as the county’s visitor economy continues to play a major role locally.
More than 7.2 million people visited Anne Arundel County in 2024, generating $4.3 billion in economic impact. Tourism supported 27,258 jobs, representing about 10% of county employment. Visitor volume increased 4.7% from the previous year, while visitor spending rose 5.6%, according to Tourism Economics data reported by CBS News Baltimore.
That spending reaches businesses throughout the community. Eye on Annapolis reported that visitors spent $625.6 million on food and beverages, $480 million on lodging, $430.1 million on recreation and $335.6 million at retailers.
A Busy Time for Local Tourism
The new board takes leadership during an active period for VAAAC. The organization launched its Be Revolutionary: America 250 Exploration Trail, connecting more than 50 historic, cultural and community sites across the county.
A new VAAAC Welcome Center at BWI Marshall Airport is also part of the organization’s plans, creating another opportunity to introduce travelers to Annapolis and communities throughout Anne Arundel County.
For residents, tourism can sometimes feel like something designed for visitors. But its impact is decidedly local. It supports jobs, brings customers into local businesses and helps sustain many of the restaurants, shops, attractions and experiences our community enjoys year-round.
