Storyville Play and Learn
A lot of you have been asking for great indoor activity ideas that are inexpensive or free. You ask, and we deliver! Last week I highlighted free museums in Annapolis. This week I’m going to highlight the best library ever: Storyville!
Storyville is a “Play and Learn” center that has two locations (Woodlawn and Rosedale) and is run by the Baltimore County Library. Over the holiday break, we finally made the trek with my 9-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter.
I was worried that my son might be too old, but he absolutely loved it. We went to the Woodlawn location as it was only about 35 minutes from the Annapolis area. It is completely free. It was constructed just like a lot of the children’s museums we have been to where they have an area that is like a mini grocery store, an area that is a little house with a kitchen, an area that is a tree house they can climb in, an area that is like a movie theater, etc.
We easily spent almost two hours here. My son loved all the “construction type” play like the magnetic gears, giant Lincoln Logs, and magnetic tubes that you arrange on a wall and roll a ball into. My daughter really enjoyed the play kitchen and all the food.
What is also nice is that there is a full library next door as well. I highly recommend going very early, especially if the weather isn’t great. I popped out to use the restroom, and I heard them tell people there was an hour and a half wait. They even hand out the restaurant-style pagers to people who are waiting. They only let in a certain amount of people and it didn’t feel remotely crowded.
Storyville is a great winter activity that won’t cost you anything and the kids will love it!
