The only migrating butterfly, the monarch, is a beloved symbol of fall. Each September and October, these long-distance travelers begin their journey from Canada to their wintering grounds in Central America, stopping along the way to dine on milkweed.
Celebrate these magnificent creatures at the 4th annual Monarchs & Milkweed at Merkle Monarch Butterfly Festival on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 10 am-2 pm.
This free event includes native plant sales with Chesapeake Natives, Inc., butterfly tagging and release, food trucks, hayrides, kids crafts and games, garden tours and hikes, and more.
Back by popular demand is the costume contest—come dressed to impress! Prizes will be awarded at noon.
