Want to make a positive impact on our local community? Check out these nonprofit organizations as we continue our series highlighting ones in the area you should know about. Consider donating your time to volunteer, providing monetary support, or offering your talents to support these amazing organizations.

Annapolis Immigration Justice Network (AIJN) connects vulnerable immigrants in Anne Arundel County to immigration attorneys. Legal representation makes a huge difference: immigrants with
legal representation are nearly five times more likely to obtain legal relief. AIJN addresses the barriers that immigrants face to accessing immigration attorneys including cost and transportation.

Since its founding in 2017, AIJN has supported some of the most vulnerable residents in our county, including families seeking asylum, children who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected, as well as survivors of human trafficking. AIJN’s unique model has a 96% success rate of favorable outcomes in court hearings, keeping families safe and together in Anne Arundel County. AIJN’s work to support immigrants is critical, now more than ever.

Caring Cupboard was founded in 2018 to fight food insecurity among the more than 84,000 students of the Anne Arundel County Public School system. The onset of COVID brought an opportunity to serve the greater Anne Arundel County community. Through their headquarters, and various pantries, Caring Cupboard has served close to 250,000 people in need of food, baby, health, beauty, and pet supplies. Their pantries include in-school food and personal hygiene pantries, a baby pantry, Little Free Pantries, and a mobile food pantry. Caring Cupboard is located at 8513 Fort Smallwood Road in Pasadena, where filling the cupboard fills the heart.

Club 164 was founded in 2019 to provide a safe and substance-free space for our community. Completely funded by generous donors, Club 164 officially opened its doors on September 18, 2021. They are conveniently located at 2016 Industrial Drive in Annapolis. Club 164 offers a unique and comforting experience by intentionally catering to those who have chosen sobriety without forsaking fun. The club’s welcoming space hosts over 35 peer support groups and frequent special events. It prominently features a non-alcoholic bar and lounge; offers light fare; and a state-of-the-art entertainment system, game room, and large community meeting spaces. The club also provides complimentary childcare services so that parents in recovery can remain committed to their sobriety without the additional burden of needing to find child care. Club 164 is open daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, 365 days a year — paying attention to holidays and the celebration of popular sporting and entertainment events that might trigger or challenge an individual’s sobriety.
