Island Vibes in Eastport
There’s a new player in Eastport, and it’s rewriting the rules. Rumhouse, the latest addition to the DTA (downtown Annapolis) dining scene, isn’t chasing trends—it’s creating them. With swanky Caribbean charm and a breezy, brunch-meets-beach-house vibe, this spot is nothing like the usual suspects.
In a town full of classic staples—steaks, burgers, crab cakes—Rumhouse is refreshingly different. And that’s exactly what makes it so exciting.
From the moment you walk in, it’s clear: this place is a total vibe. Think elevated island ambiance with a menu to match. The star of the show? Rum. Not an afterthought or a mixer—rum is the focus, treated with the same reverence that most high-end restaurants reserve for bourbon.
The drink menu is anything but ordinary, with mojitos leading the charge. Bartender Bree hand-bruises fresh mint to perfection, and her mojito is part cocktail, part performance. One sip and you’ll get it. The Rum Old-fashioned is another knockout—bold, smooth, and unforgettable. Feeling adventurous? Try a Caipirinha—if you know, you know.

The talent behind the bar is unmatched—literally. Their bar consultant is a two-time “Bartender of the Year” winner, and the creativity shows in every glass.
The food? Just as impressive.
My wife and I started with the Oxtail Croquettes, which were nearly all tender, flavorful oxtail—no fillers here. They were crisp on the outside, rich on the inside, and topped with a lemon dressing that balanced everything beautifully.
For dinner, we enjoyed the Crab & Dumplings in a luscious coconut curry sauce. The dish was spicy, but not overwhelming—just warm, comforting, and full of depth.
We ended with the Chocolate Voyage, a showstopping dessert shaped like a cacao bean. Rich, silky, and beautifully plated—just like everything else at Rumhouse.
Bottom line: Rumhouse brings something totally new to Eastport. With bold island flavors, expertly crafted cocktails, and a vibe that’s both polished and playful, this is one restaurant you’ll want to visit again and again.
